Job summary

Camberley Health Centre are seeking an experienced qualified phlebotomist to join our friendly practice team. We require a phlebotomist to work 15 hours per week over a variety of shifts.

Main duties of the job

Primary Responsibilities:

The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sampleConfirming the patients agreement to the collection of a blood sample and ensuring that the patient is comfortable and relaxed.Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with practice protocolsEnsuring samples are stored in appropriate containers and are accurately labelledChecking patient identification against GP/nurse requestRecording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice proceduresEnsuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely mannerEnsuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staffNotifying the clinical team of any significant patient issuesLiaising with and assisting members of the administrative teamUndertake training and development as required in line with the responsibilities of the post and practice policies

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to:

Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit leadParticipate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient careSupport and participate in shared learning within the practice.Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota

We are a friendly Practice, serving a diverse community of approximately 10k patient list. With a multidisciplinary team comprising of GPs, Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Healthcare Assistant, Medical Administrator/Receptionists, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technician

Qualifications Essential

Relevant qualification in venepuncture Good standard of general education

Skills Essential

Excellent communication skills (written and oral) Good listening and organisational skills Experience of working with the public Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure Excellent customer care skills Disciplined and organised, with the ability to work under pressure and manage own time Able to work as part of a team and autonomously Effective time management (Planning and organising) Able to collect and collate data

Experience Essential

Working with the general public Working in a healthcare setting Microsoft Office packages including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and other IT skills acquired through training and practical experience Working within the NHS or general practice environment Dealing with the public/patients in a caring environment Aware of need for strict infection prevention control

Desirable

Working with EMIS Web clinical systems

Personal Qualities: Essential
