Job summary
Are you a newly qualified midwife looking for a supportive unit to begin your midwifery career, or an experienced band 6 midwife, looking for a new challenge with a supportive team?
We are looking to appoint highly motivated band 5 and 6 midwives who have a passion and commitment to providing high quality, safe woman centred care for women and their families. The Maternity Unit consists of Maternity Triage, Maternity Ward and Delivery Suite areas, with an along-side Midwifery Led Unit and community midwifery service. Midwives are supported to rotate between these areas to develop and maintain their full range of midwifery skills.
There will be the exciting opportunity to work within a continuity of care midwifery model in the very near future. We would encourage and welcome applications from newly qualified Midwives.
The Trust employs a supportive midwifery management team. We pride ourselves on having an extremely friendly team who welcome newcomers to our Trust.
Main duties of the job
Development and support of the workforce is important to us and all midwives are provided with a full range of mandatory training, including obstetric and neonatal skills drills. Learning beyond registration is encouraged and all midwives are supported to undertake the Mentoring course, Examination of the Newborn (NIPE) course and Leadership course. We are about to launch our highly anticipated new Maternity, electronic patient record also.

Skills and Experience Essential
Sufficient recent experience as a midwife Effective communication skills, verbal and written Ability to demonstrate negotiating and influencing skills. Effective leadership skills and an understanding of leadership theory and practice Evidence of having developed team working skills and implemented teamwork practices. Knowledge of clinical audit and effectiveness systems. Developed and implemented safe systems of work to ensure health and safety of staff, patient and visitors Able to work flexibly e.g. support other Departments Able to meet the physical requirements of the role Keen to develop own skills and develop midwifery practice. Ability to work within a team and develop others. Organised approach to work Able to cope with some unpredictable work patterns and changing circumstances.

Education and Qualifications Essential
RM Evidence of undertaking a recognised course of study in teaching and assessing. Evidence of professional development and regular study since qualification. Educated to 1st degree level or working towards
Knowledge Essential
Knowledge of current clinical development, evidence based practices and professional issues affecting midwifery.
