Main duties of the job

UHS has an exciting opportunity to join our team of 14 consultants. The successful candidate will spearhead our benign/LUTS team; leading the LUTS pathway for BPH, developing nurse-led diagnostic & follow up pathways & supporting the launch of a new benign hub at the Royal South Hants Hospital. The successful candidate will progress benign pathways & deliver a networked approach to the management of core & benign urology. The expansion of complex BPH surgery delivered at UHS will be encouraged, serving the needs of our local population. Contribution to the diagnostic pathway is expected. Collaborative working with a range of healthcare professionals will be necessary.

UHS is a large teaching hospital & major trauma centre with a tertiary catchment across the south coast. We provide tertiary cancer services for prostate, kidney, adrenal, bladder, penis & testis with open, laparoscopic & robotic surgery (Da Vinci X & Xi). We have a breadth of benign service ranging from andrology, stones, BPH & general urology, networking with Salisbury for female, neuro & video-urodynamic expertise.

Outpatient clinics, diagnostics including urodynamics & cystoscopy, as well as LA procedures run from our dedicated urology centre. We work collaboratively with our allied surgery specialties, of note we have a paediatric surgery team as well as a 24/7 Interventional radiology service. On call will initially be 1:14 with 24/7 middle grade cover, future consultant expansion is anticipated.

The successful candidate will lead and develop the LUTS/BPH pathway to support delivery for this patient cohort. They will deliver cross site operative work as capacity allows to ensure maximal delivery of benign patients. To support this the successful candidate will play a key role in the outpatient provision and supervision of multidisciplinary clinics and diagnostics.
