About this role
We are seeking a motivated Associate Software Engineer with a Computer Science or related engineering background to join our development team. The ideal candidate will have foundational experience in Java or Full Stack development, a strong willingness to learn, and familiarity with Agile software development practices. This role provides an opportunity to work on enterprise-scale applications while collaborating with experienced engineers, product teams, and business stakeholders. In this role, you'll primarily work virtually from home or another non‑Best Buy location. However, you must live within a drivable distance to our corporate campus in Richfield, Minnesota. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team, and the recruiter or hiring manager will provide additional details during the hiring process. What you’ll do Develop, test, and deploy Java/Spring Boot applications and RESTful microservices, ensuring clean, maintainable, and well-documented code. Build and integrate modern frontend applications while troubleshooting and resolving issues across the full technology stack. Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, collaborate with teams to deliver high-quality software, and support continuous improvement efforts. Develop and maintain tests, participate in code reviews and peer programming, and adhere to coding standards and best practices to ensure software quality. Continuously develop technical and professional skills, including cloud technologies, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices. Basic qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or related field 1 or more years of software development experience Internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience in Java or Full Stack development Familiarity with Agile development methodologies Knowledge of Java and Object-Oriented Programming concepts Basic understanding of Spring Boot or Spring Framework Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks Understanding of REST APIs Basic SQL and database concepts Familiarity with Git version control Preferred qualifications Exposure to AWS or GCP cloud platforms Knowledge of CI/CD tools Understanding of microservices architecture Experience with Docker or containerized applications Knowledge of testing frameworks such as JUnit Experience with Angular and/or React Best Buy provides different types of leaves of absence (LOA) and potential pay sources to employees based on eligibility.
