About this role

Job summary

Reporting to the Divisional Director of Operations, and professionally accountable to the Divisional Director, the General Manager is responsible for the operational and strategic management of a large, complex directorate across the Trust. The post holder leads service delivery and improvement at scale, managing multiple services/sites, and influencing regional and system-wide developments.

The post holder will lead the service delivery and improvement within a single directorate, ensuring high-quality care and efficient use of resources, ensuring their directorate provides high quality patient care and achieves its performance objectives. This will include accountability for the delivery of high quality patient care, clinical governance, patient safety, clinical quality, and delivery of people and financial metrics.

They will have shared responsibility with the other General Managers and members of the divisional management team for driving forward division wide programmes of work and service developments.

Working closely with the Divisional Director of Operations, the post holder will:

shape and implement the delivery of the strategic and corporate objectives for the Trust align the directorate more closely with Imperial College, through the development of appropriate links with the Academic Health Science Centre office and with college counterparts.

Main duties of the job

Manage the delivery of all agreed outputs for the directorate, as set out in the business plan by:

Delivery of agreed performance indicators in relation to clinical outcomes, clinicalefficiency, financial sustainability and productivity gains, and service line reporting. Ensure the Directorate has clearly defined performance objectives supported by amanagement regime to deliver continuous improvement. Develop and implement effective reporting arrangements to accurately record andmonitor performance against targets and to pro-actively manage any variances. Provide regular reports to the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Directors with assurance that appropriate follow up actions will be completed. Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications Essential

First degree or equivalent experience Evidence of specialist knowledge at higher degree or masters level or equivalent experience Extensive knowledge of the NHS in the acute sector with up to date knowledge of patient services Evidence of CPD

Experience Essential

Demonstrable success in delivering large scale change and performance with and through management and clinical teams Significant experience within the Healthcare sector at General Manager level or equivalent including responsibility for strategic planning and budgetary control for a group of complex medical/surgical specialities Track record of financial delivery including successful cost improvement, productivity and efficiency programmes Experience of writing complex business cases and policies Experience of managing and deciding on complex employment issues Well-developed IT skills to manage and report on complex performance management information Excellent communications skills, written and oral
