We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and innovative Specialist Outpatient Occupational Therapy Team withinThe Walton Centre, a specialist neurosciences trust.
This part-time post focuses on supporting adults with complex neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions, and other long-term neurological disorders.
The post holder will deliver person-centred, evidence-based occupational therapy to maximise independence, function, and quality of life. This includes assessment, goal setting, intervention planning, and evaluation across physical, cognitive, and psychosocial domains.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role involves contributing to integrated care planning and education programmes, supporting patients in outpatient settings and, where appropriate, community or home environments. Collaboration with families, carers, and external agencies is essential.
As a Band 6 clinician, the post includes clinical leadership responsibilities, supervision of junior staff and students, service development, quality improvement, and promotion of self-management, vocational rehabilitation, and meaningful participation.

Main duties of the job
To assess and treat patients within designated specialist clinical area.
To work flexibly according to service needs
To assist Senior Therapy staff in service development and the provision of a quality service.
To take responsibility where appropriate, for junior therapy staff and students and delegate duties as necessary, providing appropriate level of support at all times.
Under the direction of supervisor and other team members assist with specified areas of service provision as appropriate
Where appropriate participate in clinical rotations across all areas of the Walton Centre Therapy service as directed by Therapy Managers.
Establish and manage a clinical caseload as appropriate to the service
To work collaboratively with other clinicians, including medical and nursing staff to influence service development and ensure quality of care is delivered
To provide clinical education and training to other health care professionals
Influence research and professional development for self and others.

Job description Job responsibilities
To undertake Occupational Therapy assessments and to develop and implement agreed treatment plans as appropriate. This will include the treatment of clinically complex patients in a manner that respects peoples privacy and dignity. To regularly advise, assist and educate all grades of Occupational Therapists, OT Assistants, Student OT`s and colleagues on the management of patients, including clinically challenging patients. To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided, implementing and reviewing clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken. To facilitate effective internal and external communications with patients, carers and all other Health and Social Care Professional regarding all aspects of patient care. To provide and receive complex information that requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understanding. To ensure where necessary the provision of cover for the department as a whole in times of annual leave / sickness etc.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy. Registered member of Royal College of Occupational Therapy and the Health and Care Professions Council.
Desirable
Completion of Professional practice educator's qualification.
Knowledge and Experiemce Essential
A broad range of clinical experience through acute and rehabilitation medicine Practical experience in the field of neurology and neurosciences Demonstrates application of appropriate models of Occupational therapy Knowledge of current DH guidance. Ability to initiate and apply evidence based practice within the clinical area. Able to manage own time within clinical and non-clinical activity and to guide others using problem solving and decision making skills Able to demonstrate the role of OT within the rehab MDT Demonstrate a sound knowledge of clinical governance and its application within Occupational Therapy
Desirable
Specialist experience in the field of neurosciences, complex rehabilitation and long term condition management Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit.
