We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Salaried GP to join our welcoming practice for 46 sessions per week.

Friday availability is essential, with all other sessions open to discussion and negotiation to suit the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will manage a caseload and address a wide range of health needs within a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for both registered and temporary patients.

About us

Talybont Surgery is a friendly, progressive, partner-led practice committed to delivering high-quality patient care within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

Our clinical team currently consists of six GPs (including four salaried and two partners), two GP Registrars, two Prescribing Pharmacists, a Mental Health Practitioner, a Womens Health Specialist Nurse, two Practice Nurses and a Healthcare Assistant (HCA). The clinical team is supported by an experienced and friendly administrative, reception and management team.

We are also a training practice and are actively involved in supporting the development of future clinicians. We currently host two GP Registrars as well as undergraduate medical students, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a supportive teaching and learning environment within the practice.

Clinical Responsibilities

In accordance with the agreed practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake a range of clinical duties including:

Conducting face-to-face consultations

Managing telephone and digital consultations

Participating in the practices total triage system delivered through Accurx, reviewing and clinically assessing patient requests and determining the most appropriate course of action

Undertaking duty doctor / on-call sessions, providing same-day clinical assessment and decision-making for urgent patient needs. On-call responsibilities are shared across the GP team and allocated on a sessional pro-rata basis

Carrying out home visits where clinically appropriate

Checking, signing and reauthorising repeat prescriptions

Managing patient queries, clinical correspondence and administrative tasks in a timely manner

The post-holder will also:

Make professional and autonomous clinical decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred by other healthcare professionals

Assess the healthcare needs of patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions

Screen patients for risk factors and early signs of disease

Develop care plans in partnership with patients and in line with practice disease management protocols

Provide health promotion, counselling and preventative care

Admit or discharge patients from the practice caseload and refer to other healthcare providers where appropriate

Maintain accurate, clear and contemporaneous clinical records in accordance with professional and medico-legal standards

Contribute to clinical audit and data collection activities

Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions

Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary, or generically where clinically appropriate

Support the teaching and supervision of GP registrars and undergraduate medical students, contributing to the practices role as a training environment

In general, the post-holder will undertake all duties and responsibilities normally associated with a General Practitioner working in primary care.

The post-holder will:

Maintain awareness of and comply with all practice policies and guidelines, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection and health and safety

Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and evidence-based practice

Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives

Contribute to the development and maintenance of electronic patient records

Attend training sessions and meetings organised by the practice or external organisations where appropriate

Confidentiality

Patients entrust the practice with sensitive information regarding their health and personal circumstances. All staff must respect this confidentiality and act appropriately.

The post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients, carers, staff and the practice as an organisation. All such information must be treated as strictly confidential and only disclosed to authorised individuals in accordance with practice policies and relevant legislation.

Health and Safety

The post-holder will promote and maintain the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves, colleagues and patients in accordance with the practices health and safety policies and infection control procedures.

Responsibilities include:

Using workplace security systems appropriately

Following national infection prevention and control standards

Ensuring correct handling, labelling and transport of clinical specimens

Appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Maintaining high standards of hand hygiene

Managing and reporting incidents involving exposure to infection risk

Ensuring correct handling and disposal of sharps and clinical waste

Maintaining a clean, safe and tidy working environment

The post-holder will undertake regular infection control training (minimum twice annually).

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience working in general practice Ability to listen to patients in a non-judgemental and empathetic manner Experience working with vulnerable patient groups

Desirable

Experience using clinical systems such as EMIS, AccuRx or Docman Experience supporting or teaching medical students or GP trainees

Knowledge and Skills Essential

A team player with excellent communication skills Committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care Interested in helping shape the future of the practice

Qualifications Essential

MBBS (or equivalent medical degree) Fully qualified General Practitioner Registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practice
