Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Health Care Assistant for approximately 9.5 hours one day a week on either a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. As a member of the nursing team your input to our practice team and our patients will be important. You will be integral to the delivery of high-quality patient care for our patients.
Candidates must be flexible as additional hours may be required to cover annual leave for other members of the team.

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our team and provide high-quality support to patients in a healthcare setting. The successful candidate will work closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive safe, effective, and person-centred care. This role is ideal for someone who is caring, professional, and committed to improving the wellbeing and comfort of others.
About us
We are a friendly and supportive practice in the heart of Royston.
We have a clinical team of 2 GP partners, 1 nurse and a phlebotomist. You will also be fully supported by the practice manager, assistant practice manager and 8 members of the admin/reception team.
We are also supported by a community midwife, clinical pharmacist and a prescribing technician.

1 day 8.30am-6pm
The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
1.Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments of patient need
2.Deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, long-term condition management and patient education
3.Be an integral part of the general practice team
4.Provide clinical support to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals within the organisation
5.Deliver basic clinical care interventions under supervision, supporting continuity of care and patient safety initiatives
6.Act as a chaperone as required
7.Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
8.Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC Policy
9.Work within national and local protocols where these exist
10.Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
11.Recognise the boundaries of their practice and know when and to whom patients should be referred
12.Support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements
13.Support the administrative team on an as-required basis
14.Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes
15.Contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance
16.Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
17.Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
18.In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Healthcare Assistant has the following wider responsibilities:
a. Participate in any audits as directed
b. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
c. Support and participate in shared learning
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
1.Has completed the Care Certificate or equivalent qualification and as detailed within CQCs GP myth buster 57: Health Care Assistants in General Practice. There may need to be proof of any courses or training qualifications commensurate with the post. 2.Has worked in a primary care environment 3.Understanding of infection prevention and control measures. 4.Foot screening 5.Able to perform venepuncture 6.Ability to undertake patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse and BMI etc. 7.Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to colleagues 8.Clinical IT system user skills and thew ability to record accurate clinical notes and understanding of coding 9.Understanding of safeguarding adults and children 10.Chaperone procedure 11.Demonstrate personal accountability, emotional resilience and work well under pressure 12.Ability to follow legal, ethical and clinical policy and procedure 13.Knowledge of and ability to work to key policies and procedures 14.Ability to use own initiative, discretion, and sensitivity 15.Able to get along with people from all backgrounds and communities, respecting lifestyles and diversity 16.Ability to work as a team member and autonomously 17.Excellent communication skills and effective in communicating and understanding patient needs 18.Good organisational skills 19.Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations 20.Commitment to ongoing professional development 21.Effectively utilise resources 22.Punctual and committed to supporting the team effort 23.Clear, polite telephone manner 24.Flexible and cooperative 25.Motivated 26.Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check 27.Occupational Health clearance
