BAE Systems is seeking a highly skilled Control Systems Technician (Level V) to join the Electrical & Instrument Services team. The Level V Technician is a subject matter expert (SME) responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of complex electrical and pneumatic industrial control and monitoring instrumentation across production and utility environments. Beyond technical execution, the Level 5 Technician is expected to act as a technical pillar for the department—providing mentorship to peer technicians, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety are maintained across all systems. Key Responsibilities 1. Advanced Technical Execution & Maintenance Perform complex preventive and corrective maintenance on process and analytical instrumentation, including temperature, humidity, flow, level, pressure, gas, pH, TOC, ORP, and conductivity systems. Execute expert-level troubleshooting, repair, and programming of fire alarm systems, portable radios, and other RF communication systems. Manage and troubleshoot diverse communication protocols, including HART, Profibus PA/DP, Ethernet, and fiber optics. Provide advanced diagnostic support for control systems associated with pumps, motors, control valves, and VFDs, as well as scale calibrations and repairs. Utilize precision electronic test equipment (process meters, calibrators) and interpret complex electrical schematics, single lines, and P&IDs. 2. Systems Oversight & Quality Control Own the integrity of calibration records within the CMMS programs, ensuring detailed documentation of all corrective and preventive actions. Author and revise calibration procedures based on OEM recommendations and specific application needs. Ensure all work strictly adheres to National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA, OSHA Safety Procedures, Plant Protection Standards (PPS), and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols. Provide job scoping for materials and parts requirements and provide technical guidance to peer crafts during complex repairs. 3. Leadership & Strategic Support Mentorship: Provide active instruction and learning opportunities to less experienced peers, fostering the technical growth of the team. SME Support: Serve as the primary subject matter expert on core CST responsibilities, providing a methodical approach to isolating faults in complex systems. Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities for system optimization and lead the implementation of improvements to increase reliability. Engineering Collaboration: Partner with Engineering to implement project modifications, upgrades, and the installation of new equipment/control systems. Qualifications & Requirements Experience & Education Years of Service: Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in industrial control systems. Education: Associate degree in Industrial Electronics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, or a related field; OR completion of a DOL endorsed Apprenticeship program. Technical Mastery PLC/HMI: Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs and Human-Machine Interfaces. Electrical Theory: Strong mastery of AC/DC circuits, voltage, current, and resistance. Instrumentation: Thorough knowledge of sensors, transmitters, and actuators (pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analytical). Protocols: Proficiency in HART, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and Profibus. Mechanical Skills: Expert proficiency in wiring and the use of professional hand tools. Performance Expectations Quality: Consistently produces high-quality results with minimal callbacks. Communication: Effectively communicates technical challenges and solutions to customers, peers, and management. Ownership: Displays a high degree of ownership over assigned areas and proactively volunteers to assist peers. Availability: Willingness to support plant operations via after-hours emergency call-in, on-call, or shift rotations.
