We are looking for a skilled and experienced Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our experienced team on the Acute Stroke unit at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

We are committed to delivering high quality care to people in Cornwall who have had a stroke and would love to work with a new team member who shares our passion this.

You will be working as part of a well established Speech and language team and will also work collaboratively with a supportive MDT to provide the best service that we can for patients across our stroke pathway.

This is a part time post (25.12 hours) per week until May 2027, whilst we support a team member to take up a secondment elsewhere in the team.

Main duties of the job

Main duties are:

To work As an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of specialist, evidence based SLT assessment, diagnosis and treatment of adult patients admitted with a stroke and other conditions.

To be able to manage and prioritise SLT referrals and caseload for patients admitted with stroke

To deliver education and training to patients, carers and other healthcare professionals including nursing staff, therapists and assistants

Person Specification

Knowledge Essential

Degree/graduate diploma or equivalent in Speech and language Therapy HCPC Registration as a Speech and Language Therapist Good understanding of relevant Experience of Application, clinical guidelines Post registration Speech and Language Therapist experience including experience of delivering services in an inpatient setting

Desirable

Awareness of the SLT requirements within an NHS Acute Stroke Unit

Skills Essential

Ability to use time management, communication and/or team working skills effectively. Evidence of active participation in Clinical Governance issues in relation to Speech and Language Therapy practice ability to listen to, and communicate highly, complex Information Work collaboratively with other disciplines, ensuring delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service. independently managing a clinical case load. To deliver education sessions formal and informal to groups at varying levels on swallowing and communication.

Desirable

Develop a network of communication between other agencies e.g. catering, pharmacy, consultants, nurses and other allied health professionals etc.

Experience Essential

Experience of identifying and delivering a range of communication and swallowing assessments and management plans for inpatients Experience in identifying appropriate and timely referral for instrumental swallow assessments i.e. FEES/VFSA Competently demonstrate experience of "Best practice" in a range of clinical conditions including stroke, neurology and general medical. Experience supervising student Speech and Language Therapists Experience and competence in planning and delivering education sessions for a range of people (as above) in a range of Complex Clinical areas.

Evidence of active participation in audit activities within Speech and Language Therapy
