About this role

Job summary

A fantastic and exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time (22.5 hours) Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic stroke therapy team for a fixed term until 30th May 2027. You will be joining a supportive integrated stroke therapy team consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Support Workers. We are looking for a candidate with proven specialist skills in stroke, who will provide therapy across the hyper-acute and acute stroke units.

The successful candidate will be passionate about stroke, motivated to develop their own skills and that of the service, and provide Occupational Therapy that is high quality and evidence-based. They will be keen to develop and support colleagues alongside the demands of working in a busy acute hospital.

Main duties of the job

- The post holder assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical area, in the absence of the team leader.

- The post holder is supervised by a named therapist, who may not be present at all times. Clinical and professional supervision is in the form of regular clinical reasoning sessions, observed practice, peer review and formal training.

- The post holder will link with the Band 7 clinical lead therapist to support the use of resources within budget. The level of managerial responsibility involves the supervision and appraisal of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduates, with the support of the Band 7.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Essential

Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council Demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal, non-verbal and written when interacting with other team members, clients and other professionals Experience of working in the NHS in the UK in the clinical specialty Experience of supervising, appraising, and providing education/training to others Demonstrate the ability to network with other professionals and set up close working relations Work flexibly in response to the changing demands of the service and manage changes in service delivery in self and others. Knowledge of and ability to apply and utilise evidence based practice, including national guidelines to deliver, evaluate and audit the service. Work effectively as a team member within the multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

Have an understanding of the principles of Physiotherapy as well as Occupational Therapy in order to contribute to the development of an integrated therapy service.
