Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Anaesthesia
Main duties of the job
The Department of Anaesthesia is seeking to appoint Senior Clinical Fellows with a special interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia to join our flexible, dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a first-class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment.
This post is ideally suited to clinicians who wish to pursue a career in paediatric anaesthesia. The post provides extensive training opportunities in tertiary level paediatric anaesthesia for all surgical specialities with the exceptions of neurosurgery and liver transplantation. There is a high volume of neonatal surgery as well as a large cardiac surgery service. The department has a special interest in teaching & training, regional anaesthesia, patient optimisation, enhanced recovery & difficult airway skills. There is close liaison and excellent working relationship with the PICU.

Applications are invited for Clinical Fellows in Paediatric Anaesthesia to start inNovember 2026 and February 2027. There may also be an option to start earlier by mutual agreement. The posts are for a fixed term of 6 months with possible extension to 12 months, subject to post availability and satisfactory appraisal.
The posts are suitable for anaesthetists with a minimum of 5 years experience in anaesthesia (ST6-ST7 equivalent) and are intended for anaesthetists who want to gain further experience in the sub-specialty area of Paediatric Anaesthesia. The posts would also be suitable for more experienced anaesthetists wishing to gain post-CCT experience.
The successful applicant will gain experience in all areas of paediatric anaesthesia undertaken at Evelina London Children's Hospital, including paediatric cardiac anaesthesia and neonatal surgery. The post holder will also participate in the full shift rota (1:8), which includes Long Days, Nights and weekend shifts.
You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a License to Practice.
The post holder will have regular contact with children and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Professional Qualifications & Training Essential
Eligible for full UK GMC registration with a license to practice Final FRCA or equivalent
Desirable
Additional medical qualifications related to paediatrics e.g. MRCPCH Advanced paediatric resuscitation course within past 3 years e.g. APLS / PALS / EPLS CCT in Anaesthesia or equivalent (or will be achieved within 6 months of start)
Clinical Experience Essential
Comprehensive training and clinical experience in anaesthesia (minimum 5 years whole time equivalent) equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in anaesthesia RCOA Stage 2 level training in paediatric anaesthesia or equivalent (minimum 6 months)
Desirable
Experience in Paediatric cardiac anaesthesia Experience in other allied clinical specialties like Paediatric Emergency Medicine or PICU
Audit, Quality Improvement & Clinical Governance Essential
Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit, quality improvement and clinical risk management

Experience in clinical guideline development Presentation of completed clinical audit/quality improvement project to audiences outside place of work
Teaching & Research Essential
Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates, junior medical staff and related professionals Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research
