Job summary

Do you want to be part of an innovative and collaborative Team? The Acute & Urgent Care Directorate are looking for applicants for the Occupational Therapist post. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and drive some exciting developments within a complex and fast-paced environment. You will be supported by the wider Leadership Team to ensure we continue to maintain high quality, patient focused services in line with our national and locally agreed targets.

You will work with individuals to promote independence, maximise functional ability, and support safe discharge planning across Acute settings.

This post is 22.5 hours per week and is a 12-month fixed term contract ending on 05/06/2027.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a clinical and professional service as a member of a Multi-Disciplinary Team [MDT]. Be operationally responsible as a clinician for their own caseload and the supervision of staff as required. This post includes highly skilled clinical work and requires the post holder to adapt to unpredictable changes and demands on the service as well as promoting the implementation of evidence based/person centered practice and to take responsibility for own Continuous Professional Development. You will be expected to uphold professional standards, to ensure high standard and quality clinical care and to promote the involvement of patients and carers in mental health service provision.

Job description Job responsibilities

To assist in the development of local strategies pertaining to Occupational Therapy and Adult mental health services.

To follow the national Occupational Therapy standards and guidelines incorporating national and local professional strategies and clinical guidelines for the introduction of evidence-based practice.

To follow all clinical and professional protocols, standards and care pathways within Occupational Therapy and OAP services.

To participate in any clinically led research using the principles of evidence-based practice.

To assist qualified staff in the provision of clinical supervision

To act at all times in accordance with the Health Professions Councils Professional Code of Conduct. To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of the post holders autonomous practice.

To ensure high standards of clinical practice, maintaining experience of caseload management

To plan, organise, administer and/or supervise occupational therapy goal orientated evidence-based practice.

To plan monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in assessing patients for placement

To develop and practice leadership skills.

To apply a high level of understanding of Adults Psychiatric conditions and provide appropriate training and advice.

To work alongside other professions involved with the patient both statutory and non-statutory agencies.

Ensure a safe and comprehensive channel of communication that maintains a high standard of professionalism and respects patients dignity and confidentiality.

To establish and maintain robust communication networks with patients, carers and members of the MDT and across the Trust.

Promote communication with key relationships.

Promote awareness of older peoples psychiatry by participating in training as directed by senior staff.

To work in partnership with other NHS and local organisations to develop strategic relationships

To participate in any project to develop aspects of health promotion, wellbeing and social care.

To ensure that the collection of patient related activity and clinical information takes place as required.

To be responsible for maintaining accurate patient records in accordance with Occupational Therapy and Trust standards.

To assist senior staff in ensuring efficient and effective use of resources within the team.

To have responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self, more junior staff and public to comply at all times with the requirements of the Health and Safety Regulations [1974] and Manual Handling Operations Regulations [1992]. Ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors to the Trust.

To ensure compliance with the Trust policies and procedures and take all reasonable steps to maintain and improve standards as required.

To ensure compliance with the principles of risk management. To act immediately on hazards or unsafe practices.

To maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with Data Protection, Caldecott and Freedom of Information Acts.

To be responsible for own personal and professional development, maintaining registration and meeting requirements of lifelong learning.

To maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge in order to provide a well-developed level of informed professional knowledge.

To assist in the promotion of a learning culture to support training and development of self and others.

To assist in the delivery of training.

To be responsible for ensuring own attendance at all mandatory training in line with Trust policy.

To take part in any initiatives to promote the development of quality improvement and clinical governance in order to maintain and improve the provision of patient care.

To assist in the provision of continuing professional development training.

Understand and contribute to the process of Clinical and Research Governance.

Participate in Clinical Audits.

Assist in the implementation of outcomes of Clinical Audit and evidence-based research.

Appropriate recommendations to facilitate implementation.

To assist in the implementation of changes in service delivery. Based in the clinical areas to provide advice, support, supervision, and guidance to nursing workforce to be able deliver safe and effective patient care. Assist in the development and implementation of Trust policy and procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Diploma/degree in OT.

Experience Essential

Application of the OT process. Use of functional assessment and activity analysis.

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of current best practice in OT Ability to work independently with individuals and groups Group work skills Understanding of Professional ethics and their application in practice Understanding of team Dynamics Basic knowledge of health Legislation and current Practice, including CA and risk assessment and Management Recovery based practice. Effective written and oral communication skills Work processing and internet skills Basic knowledge of the principals of clinical governance Good personal organization skills Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance Health, safety and risk awareness
