Job summary

The Medical Receptionist is a key member of the general practice team, providing the first point of contact for patients, healthcare professionals, and other visitors.This is a patient-facing role at the heart of our practice, providing high-quality reception and administrative support to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of services.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities include managing patient appointments via telephone and in-person systems, handling patient records accurately and confidentially, and signposting patients to appropriate services. The postholder will also support administrative duties such as scanning, filing, updating clinical systems, and assisting clinicians and management staff as required.

The role requires strong communication and organisational skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a professional, empathetic approach when dealing with patients. Confidentiality, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential at all times, in line with NHS and practice policies

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Previous experience working in an administrative or customer-facing role. Experience handling telephone enquiries and dealing with members of the public in a busy, fast-paced environment. Experience managing confidential information in line with data protection and GDPR requirements. Basic administrative skills including data entry, scanning, filing, and document management

Desirable

Ideally within a healthcare, GP practice, or NHS setting
