We are seeking an experienced and motivated registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team in delivering high-quality pharmacy services here at Wye Valley Trust. The post holder will be responsible for both the strategic and operational leadership of ward-based pharmacy technician services, ensuring safe, effective and patient-centred care, alongside a strong focus on continuous service improvement.

The post holder will lead and support a team of pharmacy technicians and support staff, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment. They will be accountable for ensuring the safe, efficient and effective use of medicines across clinical areas, working closely with pharmacists, nursing staff and other multidisciplinary team members to support optimal patient outcomes.

This role will play a key part in strengthening medicines management processes, supporting service development, and contributing to innovation in line with national standards and local priorities. The successful candidate will also support workforce development, participate in service evaluation, and help embed best practice across the service.

Main duties of the job

o To maintain registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a registered

pharmacy technician and to comply with the GPhC Code of Ethics.

o To ensure timely and accurate medicines management at ward level.

o To monitor and support the use of automated and digital systems supporting medicines

supply and administration.

o To monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and take action to resolve variances.

o To carry out final accuracy checks of dispensed medication as an Accredited Checking

Technician.

o Provide specialist technical advice to clinical teams and patients on complex medicines

management issues, including safe handling, administration and compliance with

medicines legislation.

o Act as the technical lead for ward-based pharmacy services, advising on specialist

processes such as controlled drug management, aseptic preparation and compliance with

local policies and procedures.

o Required to operate and troubleshoot automated dispensing systems and digital

medicines management tools with precision.

o To contribute to strategic planning for pharmacy services, identifying opportunities for

improvement and innovation.

o To participate in multidisciplinary projects to enhance medicines optimisation and reduce

waste.

o To implement changes in practice aligned with national initiatives (e.g. NHS Long Term

Plan, GIRFT).

Qualifications Essential

Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council Current nationally recognised Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) Qualification (Level 3) Post Grad level pharmacy qualification - Specialist training within area of responsibility Management Qualification to a degree level or equivalent experience Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

Skills Essential

Able to deliver to targets and deadlines Able to communicate effectively verbally, written and by presentation with patients and staff at all levels Knowledge and understanding of common Trust HR policies and procedures and the ability to implement them consistently and effectively Able to prioritise tasks and workloads across different areas and respond to urgent demands by diverting resources

Experience Essential

Significant experience in an Acute Hospital Pharmacy setting post registration Proven management role with experience of managing staff and a service Experience of conflict resolution and reaching a satisfactory outcome Experience of carrying out audits on services

Experience of change management
