Job summary
Lockswood Surgery is recruiting for a part time Prescription Clerk to join our Pharmacy Team.
This is a great opportunity for someone with strong organisation and communication skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced healthcare environment and takes pride in delivering a high-quality administrative service. You will play a vital role in ensuring patients receive their medications safely, accurately, and on time, while acting as an important link between patients, healthcare professionals, pharmacies, and the wider Practice team.
We will consider candidates seeking 18-24 hours per week over three days (preferably Monday, Tuesday and Friday), subject to agreement, provided the working pattern includes a full day on Friday.

Main duties of the job
Prescription Clerks work as part of our Practice Pharmacy Team supporting clinicians in the management and preparation of prescriptions. They assist our patients with medication and prescription queries via phone and email in a courteous, efficient and effective way, always acting as an ambassador for the Practice.
Prescription Clerks possess strong administrative skills, are patient focused and have a caring and detail-orientated approach. They support a diverse range of patients and ensure they communicate in a clear and effective manner accommodating differing levels of understanding.
They work as a part of team to co-ordinate and prepare repeat prescriptions for our patients, ensuring accurate data entry into patient medical records and EPS, supporting the safe and effective management of medications within the Practice. Acting as a focal point of communication between internal Practice teams, community pharmacists and other members of the Primary Health Care team to ensure medication is produced within the current protocols of the Practice.

Job description Job responsibilities
Carry out administrative tasks relating to patient records and medication requests from patients in line with practice protocols. Co-ordinate and prepare repeat prescriptions for our patients, updating patient records and electronic prescription service (EPS) ensuring all prescriptions are issued correctly Contact patients when their prescriptions are not due following a request or if there are problems when issuing Action clinical tasks through EMIS and respond to tasks from other colleagues Fully document patient interactions within patient records, in line with practice protocols, to ensure information is accurately recorded should any queries arise Ensure that patient queries on medication are highlighted to our Pharmacists and relevant GP Monitor, housekeep and action own emails and those allocated to the Medicines Management team Receive incoming, and initiate outgoing, telephone calls to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries Liaise with pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert our clinicians of any supply issues and share the recommended alternatives Develop, maintain, and enhance positive working relationships with external stakeholders, including pharmaceutical contract holders and their teams Assist with the preparation and review of work-related protocols and ensure adherence Support colleagues with training and keep informed of national and local updates Alert Team Lead or Senior Management of any issues that may impact patient safety or service quality Be familiar with patient safety policy and reporting (e.g. LFPSE and/or other appropriate systems) and awareness of the process and key stakeholders for safeguarding referrals Maintain accurate patient / clinical records in conjunction with Practice policies and current legislation Ensure adherence to confidentiality, data protection, and information governance requirements Work safely at all times in accordance with legislative requirements and Practice Policy and Procedures

Qualifications Essential
Good IT skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Excellent organisational and time management skills, able to manage and prioritise workload and meet deadlines Good communication skills, able to communicate effectively across different levels Ability to work as an effective part of a team Ability to work without direct supervision, use initiative and determine own priorities Understanding of confidentiality Able to assess problems and identify solutions High level of attention to detail and accuracy
Desirable
Working knowledge of EMIS / medical systems Knowledge of medical terminology
