Job summary

Are you a registered nurse or midwife looking to develop a career in specialist community public healthnursing? We offer an exciting opportunity to join the SCPHN (School Nursing) training programme startingJanuary 2027.This 12-month programme prepares practitioners for autonomous, preventative public health practice,improving outcomes for children, families, and communities. You will train in a supportive environment withsupervision from experienced practitioners and academic support from the University of Greenwich.

Main duties of the job

You will be employed within the School Nursing Team, gaining the skills needed for safe, effective SCPHNpractice while working with schools, Family Hubs, GP's, and other partners.Successful applicants are salaried throughout and will progress to a Band 6 SCPHN role upon completion.This is a community-based role with one post available in the East locality.For further information contact: [email protected] or [email protected] will be held on the 14th July 2026

Please note: at this stage, the role is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts, the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Medway Community Healthcare. Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

You will have a Level 6 Degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent knowledge acquired through experience plus a diploma in nursing

Experience Essential

At least one year's experience of working as a Nurse or midwife.

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of up-to-date clinical practice by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based procedures and clinical effectiveness framework

Desirable

Having an awareness of developments within the NHS

Skills Essential

Demonstrates a client-focused approach, with effective communication skills Able to use IT systems and databases effectively

Abilities Essential

Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people across organisational levels and sectors, including within areas of social deprivation

Working Environment Essential

Demonstrates the ability to work openly and honestly with colleagues, contribute positively to team working, and share good practice to support continuous improvement in care

Desirable

Experience of working in situations requiring exposure to distressing circumstances (e.g. safeguarding, serious illness, or vulnerable families), demonstrating resilience, empathy and professionalism
