About this role

Job summary

The post holder will be expected to work within the multidisciplinary Tameside adult learning disability team managing a defined caseload of service users providing core occupational therapyinterventions that enables individuals to work towards valued lifestyle and aim foroptimum level of functional ability including:Bringing a focus on meaningful occupation and its impact on behaviour and functionfor service users.Specialist advice to other team members and other agencies.To provide leadership for junior staff through supervision and appraisal and regularlysupervise occupational therapy students on practice placement.To contribute fully to the planning, development and evaluation of occupationaltherapy services within the Community Team initiating and leading defined projectsand participating in multidisciplinary working parties.To develop and deliver bespoke training and support packages to provider agency staff and others including families in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

To undertake occupational therapy assessments, addressing occupationalperformance, strengths and skills deficits, enabling the service user in areas ofself-care, productivity and leisure.To collaboratively identify the goals of occupational therapy intervention with theservice user as part of the overall care plan.To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to meet the wide range of therapeuticneeds of our service users.To plan and implement individual and / or group evidence-based interventions, incollaboration with the service user, using graded activity to achieve therapeuticgoals.

Job description Job responsibilities

Plan interventions to take place in the most appropriate settings including theservice users own home, the community, day service or work base where theymight attend.To monitor and evaluate intervention, to measure progress and ensureeffectiveness using evidence based practice.Demonstrate collaborative working across multi-agencies; both within andbeyond learning disability and statutory services.To work closely with service users, carers and families to establish goodtherapeutic relationships which allow joint problem solving and managementplanning.To provide support and education to service users and carers regarding specific therapeutic intervention / approach.To facilitate therapeutic groups or projects where there is an identified OT role.To attend appropriate case conferences, referral and review meetings,contributing to decisions with regard to service user care plans.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Previous experience of working with adults with a learning disability. Have previous experience of working with people with complex and multiple needs Experience of specialist equipment provision. Evidence of reflective practice and ability to critically evaluate own performance. Documented evidence of continuing Professional Development. Application of the occupational therapy process.

Desirable

Previous experience of working in the community. Previous experience of working within an MDT setting. Experience of working with people with early onset dementia. Application of sensory processing theory in practice with adults with a learning disability. Experience of working with people of all ages

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy. Knowledge of assessment tools and outcome measures. Be computer literate.

Desirable

Training and presentation skills. Evidence of clinical research relating to occupational therapy and clinical audit skills. Knowledge of current legislation relating to learning disabilities, e.g. health inequalities faced by people with learning disabilities.

Skill and abilities Essential

Ability to analyse situations and select appropriate treatment plans. Ability to organise own workload and set priorities demonstrating good time management, Ability to use own judgement, initiative and creativity Ability to demonstrate a person centred approach to working in the learning disability field Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team Ability to demonstrate emotional resilience Ability to work autonomously Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written, demonstrating a flexibility to situations and individual's needs.

Education / Qualifications Essential

Diploma/BSc in Occupational Therapy. State Registration with Health Professions Council (HSPC). Membership of RCOT professional body Further short courses and/or experience to post graduate diploma level

Desirable

Membership of a special interest group related to this field Post graduate training in related topics, e.g. o AMPS o Sensory integration qualification o Rebound o 24 hour posture management
