About this role

Job summary

Working within a multi-disciplinary team, this post involves the provision of a range of advanced diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiology services for adults of all ages, including patients with special needs.

The post holder will be working at a senior level within the Management team and contributing to the delivery of a consistently high quality, complex and sophisticated service.

The post holder is responsible for the running of this department in the absence of the head of service and works with the head of service to ensure that clinical and professional standards are always maintained.

They will work with the head of service to progress and develop the wider service and lead on aspects of the service. They will also have a few direct reports within the team.

Main duties of the job

Manage a caseload of adult patients including both aural rehabilitation and diagnostic audiometric testing according to national, professional and local protocols.

Demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge which is underpinned by theoretical and relevant significant practical experience.

Work with ENT to improve communication and working relationships. Develop an Audiology led MRI referral service.

Work as a member of the senior management team and lead areas of adult audiology in collaboration and in agreement with the Audiology head of service.

Represent the service at meetings and regional audiology group meetings.

Contribute, propose changes and implement and developments to the service including revision of protocols and pathways.

Play a key role in the services development if a high standard quality management system and the attainment and maintenance of IQUIPs accreditation.

To line manage an agreed team of clinical staff. Including being responsible for supervision, motivation and continued development of skills within the team, conduct appraisals and manage attendance and sickness, within trust protocols.

Job description Job responsibilities

Support the Head of Service in investigating complaints, drafting responses and ensure that complaints are resolved and corrective action implemented within required Trust guidelines.

Any other duties that may be discussed and agreed with the Head of Service.

Contribute to training and education programmes to student staff groups. E.g. Students on the BSc in Audiology, nurses etc.

To provide supervision and support in audiological techniques to students studying for the BSc in Audiology and assistant audiologists.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications Essential

BSc in Clinical Audiology or equivalent level of state registration as Clinical Physiologist in Audiology. Or professional Body examinations BAA (British Academy of Audiology) Parts 1 and 2. Membership of BAA, BSA (British Society of Audiologists).

Desirable

Audiology MSc or further postgraduate Audiology training (i.e HTS/STP). Registration with RCCP/ HCP. Management/leadership qualification or equivalent experience.

Knowledge Essential

Significant experience in Adult Hearing and Rehabilitation. Skills in using an Audiology Patient Management System (e.g. Auditbase), accurate use of electronic patient records, departmental networked policies, forms and documents. First class patient handling skills. Good personnel handling skills Ability to motivate, train and supervise staff. Ability to work under pressure and maintain a high level of professionalism and concentration in a constantly changing working environment, with a good ability to adapt and be flexible. Knowledge and understanding of DM01 pathway in order to support key trust performance outputs.

Experience Essential

Experience as an Audiologist Performance of all basic Audiological techniques. Fully competent in all routine diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiological procedures Fully competent in knowledge and experience of digital signal processing hearing aids. Including programming and fitting software, e.g. NOAH and Genie. Competent in advanced Audiological procedures e.g. vestibular testing. Basic IT skills (Word, Excel, Email, Patient Management Systems.
