We are recruiting for a Deputy Nurse Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The department is a busy and diverse area with exciting learning opportunities. We are seeking to maintain and expand the Cancer Centre staff as we move to an exciting new future.

The successful candidate for this post must be self motivated and able to work under own initiative, have excellent time management skills, highly developed communication and people management skills and the ability to manage change.

In addition, you will receive a High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,552 and a maximum payment of £5,735 per annum pro rata.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for delivering a high standard of specialist nursing care to all patients within MVCC.

The Deputy Nurse Manager will be able to coordinate the overall management of the Department.

Facilitating the education and support of qualified and unqualified staff and participating in the development of nursing practice in the clinical area.

The post holder will be working independently/autonomously without direct supervision, accountable for own professional actions. They will take an active role in deputising and supporting the Nurse Manager.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training Essential

Registered nurse educated to degree level Post registration Oncology qualification SACT/Chemotherapy module Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable

Advanced communication skills training Working to Nursing Degree or equivalent level of study

Previous Experience Essential

Post registration expeience in oncology specialist setting Experience in multi-professional working Experience in clinical/team leadership

Desirable

Involvement in audit / research and willingness to present findings at meetings and conferences.

Skills Essential

Leadership skills Organisational and time management skills Analytical and judgement skills with the ability to appraise a situation and act quickly Flexibility and ability to work within a team IT literacy skills Ability to problem solve Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills Intravenous/Cannulation/Central Venous Access Device skills and experience Administration of SACT/Chemotherapy and management of side effects

Ability to motivate others Intermediate life support trained

Knowledge Essential

Understanding of risk management, health and safety and other clinical governance issues. Knowledge of local and national health care initiatives / innovation to improve patient care, experience and safety. Good knowledge of cancer and treatment pathways Knowledge of HR policies and processes To act in a professional manner at all times in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct Ability to cover full 24 hr shift patters including Bank Holidays Understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion Role model our Trust values every day
