About this role

Job summary

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

The Phlebotomist will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Main duties of the job

Undertake Venepuncture

Carryout ECG's

Act as a chaperone as required

Carry out BMI checks as directed

We are a friendly Dispensing Practice in a Village on the outskirts of Rugby and Coventry with a patient list of approximately 4,500 patients

Training Practice with 2 Partners, 1 General Practitioner Retainer, 2 ARRS General Practitioners, 1 ARRS General Practice Assistant, 1 ARRS Physican Assistant

Dedicated nursing team working with HCA to deliver chronic disease management

Dedicated Reception/Dispensing team with 7 Receptionists/Dispensers

Phlebotomist

Hours of duty: Monday - Wednesday 08:25-13:00

Responsible to: Lead Nurse

Accountable to: Practice Manger

Job Purpose

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

The Phlebotomistwill deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

Undertake new patient health checks Undertake venepuncture Carry out ECGs as requested Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmesCarry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics Carry out BMI checks as directedAct as a chaperone as required When trained, administer flu vaccinations Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportationProvide support during minor operations as requiredEnsure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant MRCGP guidanceEnsure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policyDeliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate Administration tasksSecondary Responsibilities:

Participate in practice audit as directed by the adult lead Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care Support and participate in shared learning within the practiceCommunication

Dressings Wound Care / Removal of sutures & staples ECGs Administer Flu, COVID, Shingles, B12 , Pneumonia vaccinations 6 months relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last 2 years Experience of working with the General Public Experience of working in a healthcare setting Administer Flu, COVID, Shingles, B12 , Pneumonia vaccinations Treatment of small injuries New patient medicals including height, weight, BP, pulse Chaperone procedure Spirometry Ability to record accurate clinical notes

Qualifications Essential

GCSE A - C in English and Maths - or equivalent Phlebotomy certification

Desirable

Qualified in Immunisation - Flu, COVID, Shingles, Pneumonia, B12 Experience in Wound Care
