The Royal Surrey County Hospital is recruiting staff for our brand-new Elective Surgery Unit and Shalford Ward, within the Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre (CASIC), opening this summer.

Main duties of the job

KEY RESULT AREAS/MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Ensure accuracy and completeness of Patient Administration System (CERNER), entering admissions, transfers and discharges. Ensure accuracy of Ward Management screens on CERNER.
b) Ensure all patient case notes are filed and prepared promptly for the coding process. Ensure that notes are sent for coding.
c) Carry out ward reception duties, assisting patients, relatives and carers, and members of staff with their enquiries, referring enquiries to ward staff where appropriate.
d) Undertake clerical duties as required by ward team.
e) Arrange patient appointments and transport as required by ward team.
f) Ensure patient case notes are moved promptly from the ward area in order to support the prompt coding of patient treatment. Record the movement of patient case notes from the ward following the Case note Tracking Procedures.
g) File medical reports and other patient documentation in patient case notes in accordance with the approved system.
h) Participate with the Team in the recovery of uncoded episodes across the medical wards to comply with the Trusts Coding Policy. Take responsibility for tracking and rectifying missed coding from the linked ward.
i) Issue meal menus to patients. Collate and put ready for collection by the Catering Liaison Officer. Assist patients with completion of menus where necessary.
j) Assist with the distribution of meals to patients.
k) As required, collect and deliver specimens, x-rays, etc. to other wards or departments outside normal messenger service hours.
l) Attend all relevant training sessions and meetings.
m) Collect clean linen as required.
n) Support the ward manager in monitoring the cleanliness of the wards.
o) Undertake such other similar duties as may be required by the ward team.
p) Updating of bed book /ward board and completion of VTE on oasis

Qualifications Essential
Good standard of general education
Desirable
Grade C or above GCSE/equivalent English language Basic food hygiene certificate
Knowledge Essential
Previous experience in a reception or other customer facing role
