Job SummaryNASA's Johnson Space Center Engineering Directorate is seeking applicants to fill multiple positions as an Engineer supporting work in technical areas such as life support, thermal, aerosciences, flight mechanics, propulsion, power, software, robotics, simulation, structures, materials and processing, mechanics and loads, avionics, communication and tracking, mission architecture, project management, and systems engineering. Roles encompass all aspects of an engineering project life cycle.

QualificationsIn addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Identifying design or requirements for space flight, aeronautical flight systems, vehicles, payloads, or related technical fields; Working on hardware or software development, testing, verification, safety, integration, certification or operations; Troubleshooting and resolving problems, conditions, or issues related to design or operation of systems, programs, or equipment. Major DutiesContribute to the requirements definition for hardware and/or software development, taking into account integration and operational needs and constraints while assessing options for verification of the requirements.Provide subject matter expertise in the development of flight hardware and/or software for flight systems, payloads, and/or vehicles.Assist with the preparation of test processes, ground support equipment, test operations, and data analyses towards the verification and certification of flight hardware and/or software.Participate in the operations and maintenance of flight systems, payloads, and/or vehicles including cost analyses, performance evaluation, sustainability, problem resolution, repairs or upgrades, and obsolescence planning.Use professional judgment to manage projects, systems, payloads, and/or vehicles to support Center program and Agency goals.Apply critical inquiry, problem solving, and engineering methodology to complete assessments, make recommendations, and resolve issues.
