You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing assistance to the medical surgical team (e,g., surgeon, anesthetist, or registered nurse) in the operating room performing the following: preparing and screening patients for surgery; passing medical instruments or drugs or supplies during surgery. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Major DutiesTransport patients from hospital units to the Operating Room assuring safe transportation of the patient.Screen patient prior to transport to ensure pre-operative medications have been given, jewelry, dentures and any prosthetic devices have been removed.Select, assemble, and organize required supplies, equipment, and instruments for specific surgical procedure in accordance with operative work sheets, physician preference cards and/or conferring with physicians or charge nurse.Assists surgeon and operating room team throughout surgical procedure.Cleans operating room after surgery, removes and disposes of soiled and/or contaminated materials; changes linen; washes, disassembles, sterilizes, and reassembles instruments.Orient and train newly assigned personnel and students; explains operating room procedures and requirements; identifies and explains use of surgical instruments and equipment, sterilization techniques and aseptic procedures.
