About this role
Engage in the development of advanced unmanned and autonomous systems with ALTEN Ltd. Join our team as a Senior Modelling and Control Engineer, where you’ll design, model and validate complex control systems for unmanned platforms operating across air, land and maritime domains. You’ll work on flight‑critical systems, simulation environments and control architectures, contributing across the full lifecycle from concept through to integration, test and demonstration.
Location: Berkshire
On‑site: Hybrid, 3 days per week
Seniority: Senior (5+ years’ experience)
Security Clearance: Candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop modelling, simulation and control systems using MATLAB, Simulink and StateflowCreate, validate and manage model‑based designs, including requirements, test harnesses and code generationSupport flight‑critical control system development for unmanned platforms across the full lifecycleDevelop and execute SIL and HIL test environments linked to 6‑DOF dynamic modelsIntegrate and validate autopilot, flight management and onboard systemsPerform failure analysis activities (FMEA, FHA) and support redundancy designContribute to subsystem integration, system testing and demonstration activitiesCollaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentor junior engineers Required Skills
Expert use of MATLAB and Simulink toolsetsStrong experience with Stateflow and model‑based designProven background in modelling and control of unmanned or aerial systemsExperience with embedded code generation and C/C++ integrationStrong understanding of flight‑critical systems and architecturesExperience defining and validating systems against requirementsAbility to work across complex, safety‑critical engineering environmentsSoft Skills & Collaboration
Strong team player with confident stakeholder engagementAble to maintain delivery focus under pressureWillingness to mentor and support junior engineersClear and effective communicator across technical and non‑technical audiencesRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or relevant technical military background with equivalent experience.Desirable Skills
Experience with GNSS‑denied or contested navigation algorithmsKnowledge of CAN, Ethernet and serial data interfacesExperience with UAS payload and sensor integration (EO, IR, EW, LIDAR)Exposure to flight testing, control tuning and system identificationFamiliarity with aerospace standards such as DO‑178B/CExperience managing or leading modelling & simulation teams Why join us?
