About this role
As a Senior Waste Processing Design Engineer – Plant Equipment you will join Derby/ Warrington/ Manchester team to support our activities within the Nuclear Sector sector.
You will support the technical delivery of HVAC system design solutions that provide tempered and conditioned air to Reactor Island facilities, alongside systems that safely extract and treat contaminated air prior to atmospheric discharge. You will contribute across concept and detailed design phases, ensuring that ventilation and cooling solutions meet nuclear safety, performance, and legislative requirements.
You will work closely with system leads and multi-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated HVAC and chilled water solutions for safety-critical nuclear environments.
Location: Derby/ Warrington/ Manchester On Site: 2 days in one of the sites Clearance: BPSS Experience Level: 5- 14 YOE Key Responsibilities:
Support delivery of waste-processing equipment and plant system design solutions for SMR applicationsDeliver systems including reverse osmosis (RO), evaporators, ion exchange and filtration equipmentDevelop and manage technical requirements for plant equipment and process systemsProduce and review technical deliverables including specifications, calculations and engineering documentationSupport concept and detailed design activities for waste-processing systemsApply modularisation and standardisation principles to plant-equipment solutionsCollaborate with suppliers and external partners during equipment development and delivery activitiesAct as the technical interface and intelligent customer for supplier-developed solutionsCoordinate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure technical integration and complianceSupport engineering governance, quality assurance and design review activitiesPresent technical solutions and design maturity at stakeholder and programme reviewsSupport delivery of programme milestones, cost and schedule objectivesMentor and support junior engineers within the team Required Skills:
Strong knowledge of waste-processing or process-plant engineering principlesExperience delivering systems such as RO, evaporators, ion exchange or filtration equipmentExperience developing plant-equipment designs from concept through detailed definitionAbility to manage technical scope and support equipment delivery activitiesExperience working with suppliers and external manufacturing partnersExperience producing and reviewing technical engineering documentationStrong collaboration and stakeholder coordination skillsUnderstanding of engineering governance and quality assurance processesAbility to balance technical, cost and programme considerationsAbility to plan work, manage priorities and escalate technical risks appropriatelyRequired Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Process or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent military experience.Desirable Skills:
Experience in nuclear or other safety-critical industriesFamiliarity with verification and validation techniquesExperience working within regulated engineering environments Why join us?
