Main duties of the job

Here you'll join a welcoming multidisciplinary team supporting children and young people with visual impairments, sensory impairments and complex needs. Unlike many healthcare settings, you'll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships over time, working closely with young people, families and colleagues to help achieve life-changing outcomes.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will work across our College, Extended Curriculum and Adult Services, delivering specialist physiotherapy interventions that promote independence, physical wellbeing and quality of life.

What you'll be doing

Delivering high-quality physiotherapy assessment, treatment and intervention programmes. Supporting young people with complex physical, sensory and neurological needs. Contributing to care planning, risk assessments and person-centred goal setting. Working closely with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary health and therapy team. Leading and contributing to multidisciplinary meetings. Supporting hydrotherapy and rebound therapy programmes. Providing training, guidance and support to staff to embed physiotherapy throughout daily practice. Advising on specialist equipment, postural management and safe moving and handling practices. Liaising with families, healthcare professionals and external agencies to ensure coordinated support.

Salary:£30,868.57-£43,177.41 (points 12 to 25 on the InFocus salary scale) depending on experience (Pro Rata)

Main purpose of the job

To provide Physiotherapy to students and young people as a part of a holistic approach to person centred support to maximise independence and physical wellbeing.

Duties and responsibilities

Clinical Leadership and Service Delivery

Lead the delivery of physiotherapy services across the College, Extended Curriculum and Adult Services, ensuring high standards of practice and positive outcomes for young people. Promote and maintain excellence in physiotherapy provision, contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the service. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual physiotherapy programmes that promote independence, physical wellbeing, health and quality of life. Ensure physiotherapy interventions are embedded within a holistic, person-centred framework and integrated into each person's daily life. Support the development of new initiatives and service opportunities, including work undertaken off-site where required. Assessment and Care Planning

Undertake assessments for prospective students and young people as part of admissions and transition processes. Review physiotherapy assessments and intervention plans regularly, adapting programmes in response to changing needs and outcomes. Contribute to multidisciplinary care planning, risk assessments, goal setting and review processes. Prepare professional reports and recommendations for annual reviews, multidisciplinary meetings and external agencies. Multidisciplinary Working

Work collaboratively with colleagues across Health, Therapy, Education and Care services to ensure coordinated support for young people. Represent physiotherapy within multidisciplinary meetings and contribute specialist knowledge to support decision-making. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with families, commissioners, healthcare professionals and external agencies. Lead and attend meetings both on and off site as required. Training and Professional Support

Deliver training, coaching and guidance to staff to ensure physiotherapy principles are understood and consistently applied across the organisation. Support the day-to-day management, supervision and development of the Physiotherapy Assistant. Promote best practice and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and professional development. Specialist Therapeutic Interventions

Plan, deliver and review hydrotherapy programmes and treatment plans. Undertake Rebound Therapy training (if not already qualified) and plan and deliver therapeutic rebound sessions for students and residents. Provide specialist advice regarding postural management, mobility, physical wellbeing and the safe use of equipment. Monitor specialist equipment and ensure it is used safely, appropriately maintained and removed from use where concerns arise. Quality Assurance and Professional Practice

Maintain accurate and timely records in accordance with HCPC, Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and organisational standards. Participate in audits, service evaluation and quality improvement activities to support the ongoing development of physiotherapy services. Maintain HCPC registration and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy membership, meeting all professional and CPD requirements. Ensure practice remains evidence-based, informed by current research and aligned with professional standards and clinical governance requirements. Safeguarding

To recognise the signs of abuse and immediately report abuse or suspected abuse to the Safeguarding Team and record on the InFocus IT system

To protect the confidentiality of all information relating to the young people and not divulge information to anyone who is not authorised to receive it

To work within InFocuss intervention policies to ensure the safety of staff and young people is maintained To accurately record and assess incidents and accidents on InFocuss IT systems To record detailed and accurate records of daily activities, progress made by young people, care and support given and tasks undertaken

To actively support the young people who are unwell by monitoring their condition, observing and recording on IT systems and notifying relevant staff

To utilise a range of InFocus IT systems and regularly check electronic communications to keep abreast of changes and respond to requests

To be responsible for updating and maintaining InFocuss IT systems to ensure that care plans, protocols and risk assessments are produced and implemented for all young people; within agreed standards

To ensure young people are safe and that any safeguarding issues are accurately recognised, reported and recorded in line with our policies and procedures

Person Specification

Communication Essential

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships with young people, families, colleagues and external professionals. Confidence in leading meetings and contributing to multidisciplinary discussions. Ability to provide clear direction, set objectives and support others to achieve agreed outcomes. Ability to deliver training and promote best practice across teams. Ability to challenge practice constructively while fostering a culture of openness, respect and continuous improvement.

Qualifications Essential

Degree or recognised national qualification in Physiotherapy. Current registration with the HCPC. Evidence of recent and relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Commitment to maintaining professional knowledge and keeping up to date with current evidence-based practice and research.

Desirable

Additional qualifications in areas such as postural management, specialist seating, respiratory care, hydrotherapy or other relevant clinical specialisms.

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Strong clinical assessment and treatment skills. Ability to demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning and sound professional judgement. Understanding of clinical governance and its application to practice. Knowledge of person-centred approaches and outcome-focused care planning. Ability to develop physiotherapy plans that support young people to achieve meaningful goals and maximise independence. Ability to identify risks and contribute to multidisciplinary risk assessments and care plans. Understanding of the needs of young people with complex disabilities and additional needs. Qualified Rebound Therapist or willingness to undertake training. Experience of hydrotherapy, aquatic therapy or willingness to develop skills in this area.

Desirable

Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to health, education and adult social care.

Experience Essential

Minimum of two years' post-qualification experience as a Physiotherapist. Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating physiotherapy interventions. Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team and liaising effectively with external professionals and agencies. Experience of complex postural management and specialist equipment. Experience of working with young people with learning disabilities and/or complex neurological conditions. Experience of developing, implementing and reviewing individualised physiotherapy programmes. Experience of providing guidance, training and support to carers, support staff or other professionals. Experience of prioritising and managing a varied caseload according to complexity and clinical need.

Desirable

Experience of working in a specialist education, residential care or health and social care setting. Experience of working with children and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Experience of supporting individuals with visual impairment and/or sensory impairment. Experience in respiratory conditions and the therapeutic treatment of. Experience of mentoring, supervising or supporting the development of colleagues or students. Experience of networking and building effective relationships with external services and partner organisations.
