About this role

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a difference, nurturing the whole child, and supporting high‑quality teaching and learning across the school.

Teaching and LearningHLTA 32.5-36 hours per week, 38.6 weeks per year

Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher and increase achievement for all pupils, including those with SENDPromote, support and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activitiesSupport the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at enabling all pupils to achieve their full potentialUse effective behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policy and proceduresSupport class teachers in maintaining good order and discipline, ensuring a safe and productive learning environmentOrganise and manage teaching spaces and resources to create a stimulating and safe learning environmentObserve pupil performance and share relevant information with the class teacherSupervise a class in the teacher’s absenceUse IT skills to enhance pupils’ learningUndertake any other relevant duties as directed by the class teacherPlanningContribute to effective assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording and reporting of pupil performance and progressRead and understand lesson plans prior to lessons, where availablePrepare the classroom for learning activitiesUse subject or specialist expertise to support planning and preparation of learning activities, including planning your role within themUse allocated time to devise clearly structured, motivating activities that advance learningPlan for the inclusion of all pupils in learning activitiesWorking with Staff, Parents/Carers and ProfessionalsCommunicate effectively with staff, pupils, parents and carers under the direction of the class teacherShare knowledge and understanding of pupils with colleagues and external professionals to support informed decision-making about interventions and provisionContribute to meetings with parents/carers by providing feedback on pupil progress, attainment and barriers to learning, as directedWork with the class teacher to keep external professionals informed of pupils’ progress or concernsUnderstand your role within the classroom and wider school to work collaboratively and effectively with teachers and specialist colleaguesCollaborate with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the schoolBuild and maintain effective professional relationshipsHealth and SafetyPromote the safety and wellbeing of pupils, following Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance and the school’s safeguarding and child protection policiesSupport children who are upset or who have had accidentsProfessional DevelopmentMaintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding by reflecting on practice, liaising with school leaders and identifying relevant professional developmentTake opportunities to build skills, qualifications and experience with the support of the schoolParticipate in the school’s appraisal proceduresAbout The Good Shepherd TrustOn 1 March 2024, Cranleigh C of E Primary School became part of The Good Shepherd Trust (GST) — a multi‑academy trust serving 23 schools across Surrey and Hampshire.
