About this role

The Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer (Scholarship and Professional Practice) in Deaf Studies to contribute to course leadership and teaching across our BA (Hons) British Sign Language programmes (Deaf Studies and Interpreting pathways) and MA Interpreting programme.

The programmes sit within the School of Social Science, Humanities and Creative Industries, a vibrant and diverse academic environment encompassing disciplines such as Deaf Studies, Interpreting, Sociology, Criminology, English, History and Media.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to lead the MA Interpreting course and deliver high-quality teaching, particularly on theory-based modules. These may include linguistics for BSL learners, translanguaging, contemporary Deaf Studies, and Deaf education policy and practice. Expertise in Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, or sign language policy is highly desirable, alongside the ability to contribute new perspectives informed by Deaf lived experience. The ability to teach language and/or linguistics modules would be advantageous.

You will hold a Master’s degree (PhD desirable) in a relevant discipline and have experience of teaching, ideally within higher education. Fluency in British Sign Language is essential (L1 preferred). Applications from Deaf academics are particularly welcomed.

Please refer to the job description and person specification (available on the university's website, accessed by the 'Apply' button) for full details of the role requirements.
