About this role

Job summary

Due to continuing practice development and increasing demand Birchwood Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for a 2 session salaried GP to join our friendly practice team providing a high quality service to our 11,000 patients.

This is a fixed term position until 31 March 2027.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated doctor with strong commitment to good patient care and an ability to work as part of a well organised practice team. You will benefit from a supportive environment with regular clinicians' meetings to provide peer support and sharing of best practice.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder's duties will include, but are not limited to:

Face to face and telephone consultations & queries, online consultations, home visits, checking/signing repeat prescriptions & dealing with queries, paperwork & correspondence in a timely fashionMaking professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workersAssessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problemsScreening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illnessIn consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.Providing counselling & health educationReferring to other care providers as appropriateRecording clear & contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standardsCollecting data for audit purposes & contributing to the practice audit programme as requiredCompiling & issuing computer-generated acute & repeat prescriptions in accordance with the accepted prescribing formularyTake responsibility for, and have oversight of, some aspects of the clinical work within the practice team, e.g. co-ordinating aspects of governance, QOF, PCN work, enhanced services, CPD & keeping clinical protocols up to dateWork to support PCN mandated working, making efficient use of the ARRS roles staff & supporting PCN developmentUndertake all the normal duties & responsibilities of a GP subject to contractual variation

Job description Job responsibilities

The post-holder will practice in accordance with accepted good medical practice and the various policies and procedures of the practice including, but not limited to:

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the job plan, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including, but not limited to, surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, video consultations, System Connect online consultations, visiting patients at home, on call rota, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely mannerParticipate in GP triage of System Connect online appointment requests to provide excellent responsiveness to clinical need Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the practice or external organisations/services Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness Contributing to QOF, Primary Care Network and enhanced service requirements and recording data appropriately In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health related illnesses Providing counselling and health education Admitting patients to hospital/external services or departments, also referring to other care providers as appropriate Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards Collecting data for audit purposes and contributing in the practice audit programme as required Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible) Prescribing in accordance with accepted prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate Take responsibility for some aspects of the clinical work within the practice team, for example; co-ordinating aspects of governance, QOF, PCN work, enhanced services, CPD and keeping clinical protocols up to date In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, as set out by RCGP, GMC, all other royal colleges and councils applicable to the staff within the practice, DoH, ICB and all other regulatory and standard setting organisations Other responsibilities within the organisation:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice Contribute to individual case discussions at clinical meetings and bring examples of cases for group discussion Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read coding patient data Contributing to evaluation/audit within the practice Attend training meetings/events organised by the practice and other agencies where appropriate Attending team meetings and other meetings as may be necessaryConfidentiality:

In addition to maintaining continued education through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure that professional development requirements are met, the post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, with such training to include:

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills Essential

MBChB or equivalent Satisfactory completion of GP training/MRCGP Be fully registered with the GMC and be on the performer's list of NHSE Sound clinical knowledge and judgement Excellent communication skills Excellent organisation and time management skills Ability to work under pressure using own initiative Commitment to providing consistent high quality care Team worker Hold current valid UK driving licence
