The combined size of our geography makes this the largest collaboration in the country with the Trusts offering a range of both general and specialist hospital services with excellent clinical outcomes for patients. We have an international reputation for excellence in specialist care, research, and academic training.

Job Summary Registered Clinical Scientist – Bioinformatician (Genomics)
1 x permanent band 7 Clinical Scientist – Bioinformatician position (based at either Leeds, Sheffield or Newcastle North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub sites)
37.5 hours per week, full time

We are looking to recruit 1 x Band 7 HCPC-registered (or soon to be registered) Clinical Scientist - Bioinformatician to work within the NEY GLH bioinformatics team based at either of the following NEY GLH sites (candidate choice):
NEY GLH Central Laboratory based at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, or Sheffield Diagnostic Genetics Service - Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, or Newcastle Genetics Laboratory - Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust The post holder will be required to work 37.5 hours per week full-time and contribute to out-of-hour’s rotas including weekends and bank holidays as required.
Applications from HCPC registered Healthcare/Clinical Scientists, final year Scientist Training Programme (STP) trainees specialising in Bioinformatics (Genomics), or those working towards HCPC registration via equivalence routes are welcomed.
For those candidates who are not yet registered, they will be expected to work towards HCPC registration within a year and would be appointed on a salary band appropriate for their experience.
The successful applicant will have opportunities to work on a variety of exciting projects across rare disease and cancer.
The role responsibilities include:
To provide highly specialised bioinformatics expertise to support the diagnostic platforms being used within NEY GLH. This will include implementation of methods of data handling, analysis and interpretation of data that will ultimately have a direct impact on patient care. To work within the NEY GLH virtual team based across the different NEY GLH sites to plan activities and develop the bioinformatics capability of NEY GLH.
