About this role

Job summary

We are seeking an assistant psychologist with an interest in supporting & improving emotional wellbeing & mental health for young people.

The post holder will be working alongside other clinicians in CAMHS within a consultation & clinical capacity to support the Kingston CAMHS Getting Help team, the professional network, young people & families & will take a lead on monitoring the impact of the work.

Main duties of the job

To support and enhance the provision of professional psychological care of children and young people who require support to transition to adult mental health services. Support to clinicians involved in the care of young people who are moving to adult mental health or associated mental health services through the support to group or individual work, support to staff teams, audit, quality improvement and research under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and lead nurse and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.

To assist in the conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects and project work. The post holder will help design and implement teaching and support intervention, for both the child, young person and his/her carers. All clinical work will be carried out under supervision and with the agreement of the post holder's supervisor.

To support with the teams' assessments, neurodevelopmental assessments and check in calls for those on the waitlist. To complete referrals to other services and liaison with other agencies.

Job description Job responsibilities

To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a clients problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic and/or psychoeducation groups, or care planning. To attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings, including referral, clinical and review meetings. To support protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological, tests, selfreport measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care under thesupervision of a qualified psychologist. To assist in the implementation and monitoring of therapy and care plans in a way that is positive and respectful of clients and carers' needs. To assist in the compilation of assessment, update and discharge reports as required. To work with other staff to assess clients in various settings and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews. To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications Essential

An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable

Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis

Experience Essential

Experience of working with young people with mental health problems and/or or other disabilities

Desirable

Experience of working with people with adults Experience of using microcomputers for databases or data-analysis, especially SPSS for Windows
