About this role

Job summary

Paediatric Otolaryngology at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital is delivered by a team of consultants with expertise across the full range of Paediatric ENT at secondary, tertiary and quaternary level including airway surgery including endoscopic and open airway reconstruction, head & neck surgery, rhinology including frontal skull base surgery, otology and cochlear implantation.

In addition to the consultant team, the department comprises of two post-CCT Paediatric ENT fellows, one specialty doctor, two senior locally employed middle grade doctors, two deanery trainees, one resident doctor (CT2) and specialist nurses including a tracheostomy nurse.

This post within Paediatric ENT will provide clinical support at post-CTT level under the supervision of the consultant body. The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate that they have successfully completed a higher training programme in ENT (equivalent to CCT) by the time the fellowship starts and are committed to the development of a career in paediatric otolaryngology. The Fellowship is open to international and UK senior trainees.

Main duties of the job

To participate in hot week daytime on call rota (1:10 weeks) and to supervise and support the trainees in conducting daily ward rounds including the assessment, investigation and management of Tertiary and Secondary level Paediatric ENT surgical cases.

- The post holder will be allocated two consultant led operating lists a week where they will join the consultant and be further trained in a wide range of Paediatric ENT surgical procedures.

The post holder will have the opportunity to perform emergency paediatric ENT cases in the emergency theatre either under direct consultant supervision or autonomously depending on case load and the previous experience.

The post holder will be undertaking autonomous outpatient clinics with consultant supervision available, which will comprise of a mix of rapid access clinics and general paediatric ENT clinic. The post holder will have the opportunity to join speciality clinics as an observer (cochlear implant, microtia, airway, allergy, dysfunctional breathing)

- The post holder will share in the 'middle grade hot week on call rota', which includes being the person responsible for reviewing new admissions, assessing patients in the Emergency Department that require ENT input and performing inpatient consultations during working hours.

- There is an out-of-hours on call commitment covering RMCH and NMGH (paediatric patients only) with a 1:8 weeknight and weekend commitment.
