Job summary
We are seeking a qualified pharmacy technician to join our team at Wellfield Health Centre.
We are looking for a pharmacy technician to support the medicines management function working closely with the GPsd and existing Pharmacy Technician. You will provide specialist medicines management advice to the GPs, Nurses and the reception team to promote the safe, effective and high-quality, cost-effective use of medicines in all prescribing decisions. The role will also involve close working with our local care homes and community pharmacies to support repeat prescribing processes for the practice population.
Candidates must be able to work methodically with attention to detail and may also be asked to carry out other relevant tasks for our busy surgery.
Experience of working within Primary Care would be an advantage and experience of EMIS would be preferred but not essential.
Main duties of the job
Provide Medicines Management support to the whole practice team, dealing with patient medication requests, preparing prescriptions and patient medication queries face to face and by telephone.
Work with the GPs and Practice Management team to develop safe, effective, and efficient systems for the repeat prescribing of medication.

The Practice is a GMS practice providing medical services to a population of approximately 13,800 patients. We work from purpose built premises close to the centre of Rochdale with a friendly, supportive clinical and administrative team. We are a member of the Canalside Primary Care Network.
This is a permanent role to start as soon as possible.
Salary dependent upon experience.

The practice pharmacy technician will support all practice staff, including GPs, nurses, admin staff and receptionists in providing an efficient, effective service to our patients.Dealing with patient medication requests, preparing prescriptions and to answer patient queries face to face and by telephone.Dealing with patient medication requests, preparing prescriptions and to answer patient queries face to face and by telephone.Reconcile the medications of patients whose care is transferred back to primary care in a timely and effective manner liaising with patients and other providers to ensure patients receive appropriate medication on dischargeWork with the GPs and Practice management team to develop safe, effective, and efficient systems for the repeat prescribing of medicationWork with GPS to implement changes to medicines in line with MHRA alerts, product withdrawal and other local or national guidanceManage requests to prescribe medication from specialists in line locally agreed Shared Care guidelines and escalate to GP for more complex patients.Proactively identify patients who require blood tests or GP review before their next prescription is issued to support safe prescribing. This includes but is not limited to high risk drugs.Carry out medication housekeeping e.g. dose optimisation and medicines synchronisationTo respond to medication queries from patients and staff in a professional manner referring to the appropriate clinician in accordance with protocols and personal and professional boundaries.To support the achievement of the practices prescribing quality and outcomes framework (QOF) targets.Provide professional telephone and written advice and support to patients and their carersParticipate in audit activities to optimise medicines safety and the use of prescribing resourceAny other duties as required by the Practice within the boundaries of training, experience and competence.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Professional registration with GPhC BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
Experience Essential
Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community, or hospital pharmacy
Desirable
Experience of working in a GP Practice Experience of using EMIS Clinical system
Knowledge Essential
Relevant theoretical and practical knowledge of Primary Care Networks, General Practice and evidence-based medicine Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for the improvement of prescribing Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law, ethics and current legislation
