Job summary
We are seeking to recruit highly motivated and innovative practitioners to train as School Nurses and deliver great service to our children and families in Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHNs) work at individual, community and population level in a preventative social model of health, designed to empower families to take control of and improve their own health and wellbeing.
Successful applicants must have a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree. Applicants who have a Diploma in Education or a bachelors degree with a lower grade may be considered using the University of Surrey Advanced Standing process.
Please note you need to have an NMC registration before starting the course and a full driving licence including business car insurance and use of a vehicle. This post is subject to Occupational Health Clearance and an enhanced DBS check.
Successful candidates need to commence this full-time course in October 2026 to be completed by October 2027 with University of Surrey.
Main duties of the job
Take full advantage of the opportunities offered whilst in a practice placement to underpin the theoretical knowledge gained whilst in the educational setting.
Seek out additional learning opportunities available in the community under the guidance of the Practice Supervisor/Practice Teacher/Community Practice Assessor.
Take responsibility for identifying own learning needs and seek help at the earliest opportunity if learning support is required.
Demonstrate the achievement of competencies necessary to practice as a Student SCPHN by completion of the Practice Assessment Document.
Study for and achieve the PgDip in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing.
To work as a Student SCPHN within the community as a member of a Health Visiting/School Nurse 0-19 Team as appropriate.
To work under the guidance of a Practice Teacher/Community Practice Assessor and/or Practice Supervisor.
To work with the academic tutor responsible for overseeing progress and engage in the use of web-based learning facilities provided by the University
To attend regular supervisory meetings to reflect on practice.
To attend practice placement on days designated by the university (including confirmation of practice).

Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse on Part 1 or 2 of the NMC Register or be a registered midwife A minimum of a 2 2 honours degree.
