This is a new less than full-time post for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine. The post holders will join a complement of 8 consultants and Specialist Drs responsible for the provision of integrated Specialist Palliative Medicine services to the Health Board (with bases at Ty Olwen, Morriston Hospital and Y Rhosyn within Neath Port Talbot Hospital).

The focus of this post is community Specialist Palliative Care based at Y Rhosyn Neath and Port Talbot hospital, Baglan and Ty Olwen, Morriston Hospital and is part of the department's work force expansion to better meet the need of the local population. 1 session from the Job will be to support the Specialist Palliative Medicine needs of Ystradgynlais patients in Powys.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will hold continuing clinical responsibility for prevention, diagnosis and treatment related to palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring excellent symptom control, holistic assessment, and integrated support for patients and families in a variety of settings--home, community hospitals, acute hospitals and specialist inpatient units. They will work collaboratively with consultant colleagues, GPs, CNS teams, allied health professionals and voluntary sector partners to deliver safe, efficient and patient-centred care.

The consultant will also take part in the 1:7 non-resident on-call rota, providing telephone advice and occasional direct assessment to support palliative care needs across South West Wales.

The consultant will play an active role in teaching and training medical students, junior doctors and other healthcare professionals, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate education linked to Swansea and Cardiff universities. They will provide supervision where appropriate, participate in departmental teaching programmes, and promote a positive learning environment. The consultant will also be encouraged to engage in research, quality improvement and audit, contributing to the Health Board's university-level research and education ambitions.

Qualifications Essential

Registered with the GMC On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Palliative Medicine or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register MRCP Licensed to practice

Desirable

Further relevant degree/diploma Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education
