Our Integrated Mental Health and Substance Misuse Service at HMP Isle of Wight is looking for a dynamic and experienced Healthcare Support Worker. The team is innovative, forward thinking and committed to a Recovery focused approach that meets people's needs. You will be part of a supportive team with effective management, supervision and guidance.

Working with people who have complex offending backgrounds and mental health needs within prison is both challenging and rewarding.

Main duties of the job

To improve the lives of people with mental health and substance misuse difficulties by minimising the impact of their condition through the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and well- being.

To be compassionate in meeting the needs of patients and their carers.To work as part of an Integrated Multi-Disciplinary Team. Working collaboratively and in partnership with primary care and prison colleagues.

To assist in the delivery of patient care, as directed by registered practitioners, Substance misuse recovery workers and team manager, undertaking duties and activities with limited or indirect supervision in the prison setting.

To promote social inclusion and recovery through the provision of high-quality patient care.

To show commitment to and participate in quality improvement activities.

To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental ill health and substance misuse problems.

To promote at all times a positive image of the Service and the wider Trust.

Maintains safety, privacy and dignity of all patients in the delivery of patient centred care, recognising and respecting differences including spiritual and cultural beliefs. Responsible for recognising the signs of patient harm, abuse or neglect, including poor clinical practice, identifying issues regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk and reporting all such concerns in accordance with Trust Safeguarding procedures. Undertake delegated activities within level of own competency, and with due regard to risk assessment, to assist with the implementation of intervention plans as part of the multidisciplinary team. Patients will have a range of mental health conditions and may demonstrate challenging behaviours. Contribute to patient assessment and accurately document within the medical record. Identifies changes in patients presentation and acts, reports and records appropriately. Regularly accompanies and provides support to patients in a variety of prison settings, as delegated and dependent on current risk assessment.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 or equivalent. Key skills in Literacy and Numeracy Level 2.

Experience Essential

Previous experience as a Band 2/3 HCA or equivalent in a care environment.
