QualificationsGeneral Experience: Possess experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of materials and equipment used in the line of work (helmets, torso harness assemblies, parachutes, survival equipment); Ability to understand written instructions and use reference materials and manuals. AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, WG-4818-10: Must have 18 months experience which has demonstrated knowledge of aviation life support equipment; Experience reading and interpreting military manuals; Experience in supply procedures and property accountability; Experience collecting information and presenting it to various sized groups; Experience in planning a functional shop maintenance program. Major DutiesTHIS IS A T32 EXCEPTED SERVICE, INDEFINITE POSITION. Indefinite appointment cannot exceed 5 years. Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered. The primary purpose of the AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, WG-4818-10, is to provide diagnostic, analytical, calibration, investigative research, troubleshooting, in-depth inspections, quality control inspections, certification, testing, evaluation, and maintenance or overhaul of all aircrew life support and chemical defense equipment. Provides formal academic classroom and technical instruction to all pilots/aircrew on all initial and continuation instruction to ensure aircrew survival ability under peacetime or combat operations. Responds and participates as an Air Force aircraft mishap board representative in investigating life support equipment failures/malfunctions associated with mishaps. May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance.RequirementsCALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Must maintain appropriate level of security clearance. May be required to successfully complete a one or two year trial period. Must wear appropriate military uniform including required grooming standards. Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade and job assignment as required by current directives. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. The position requires the incumbent attend water and land survival schools, the Life Support instructor course, and the aircraft accident reporting course. Also the incumbent must be able to obtain materials handling license(s) for equipment utilized in the assignment. Must be certified and remain current in Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA).
