Job summary
Hemsby Surgery is seeking to recruit an Apprentice Trainee Pharmacy Technician, to train within our supportive Dispensary Team. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate, as alongside day to day work in our Dispensary, you will be released to undertake training through the UEA to qualify as a Pharmacy Technician as part of the NHS funded UEA PTPT programme and obtain a Certificate in Higher Learning in Pharmacy Technician Practice over the two-year course.

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

KEY TASKS
To assist the ACT & Senior Dispensers in the day-to-day operations of the Dispensary to ensure the provision of a safe, efficient and accurate dispensing service for patients and staff within national professional and legal requirements.
To support & promote the aims and ethos of the Practice in delivering high quality person-centred care
Promote effective communication with patients and colleagues within and outside the Team
To undertake other training as outlined in the UEA PTPT programme
Main Duties
To participate in all dispensing activities, ensuring that the correct medicines are dispensed and that they are appropriate for the patient.
To undertake labelling, receive prescriptions, issue dispensed and checked prescriptions and counsel patients or their representatives on how to take their medications by giving the appropriate information and answering patient queries within the limits of their knowledge, responsibilities and legal requirements.
To follow Standard Operating Procedures to ensure all information is entered correctly into the computer system
To gain a basic knowledge of procurement for pharmaceuticals.
Assist in ensuring good stock supplies and participate in maintaining good stock rotation.
Assist in processing stock deliveries, informing suppliers of errors and returning incorrect orders under supervision.
Familiarisation with Medicines Optimisation systems, checking medicines and supplying them to patients under supervision.
Familiarisation with Medicines information systems and participating in answering pharmaceutical queries under supervision.
Familiarisation with Quality Assurance systems and participating in audits as required, under supervision
Complete the PTPT course and comply with the requirements of the Apprenticeship, including attendance at college, completing a portfolio of evidence and gaining the required competencies to register with the GPhC.
To provide a high standard of patient care.
To ensure accuracy of work during all stages of the dispensing and final checking process.
To communicate and interact effectively with colleagues, the public, patients and other professionals.

Qualifications Essential
4 passes or more at GCSE (grade 4 -C or above) or equivalent qualification including, Maths, English, and at least one science subjects or double science Ability to work accurately under pressure Ability to apply theory to practice Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer skills Ability to work alone or as part of a team Excellent communication both written and verbal Ability to demonstrate good levels of accuracy Ability to prioritise work and manage time to meet deadlines Methodical and analytical Able to work on own initiative Conscientious and reliable Empathetic Commitment to study A criminal record check satisfactory to the organisation. Must meet requirements to qualify for Apprenticeship funding. Able to work hours required
Desirable
Grade A or B or equivalent at GCSE in biology, chemistry, English, mathematics Some understanding of NHS-role of pharmacy in clinical environment Previous work experience in any pharmacy setting Science-related work experience Able to demonstrate commitment to own development
