Job summary
This is a fixed term 9 month post (1st July 2026 - 31st March 2027) which presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high- quality, patient- centred service within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
The successful candidate will join a team of 4 consultants and 8 nurses who work collectively to cover the dermatology service. The post will be expected to provide specialist outpatient and inpatient dermatology care. Deliver expertise in the diagnosis and management of skin conditions, including skin cancer. Participate in MDT meetings and support junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals through supervision and teaching.
The department offers a friendly collaborative working environment with links with regional specialist center. The department has a long history of innovation and has introduced both a pre and post telederm referral pathway for suspected cancers.

Main duties of the job
o Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of medical and surgical dermatology.
o Provision of out-patient services in general and tumour dermatology in West Suffolk Hospital.
o Local anaesthetic surgery, one week if needed.
o To efficiently manage the administrative side of patient care including communications with GPs and informing patients of results.
o To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
o To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

Job description Job responsibilities
The specialist nurses share care for patients with chronic disease on second-line treatment. They provide pre-treatment counselling and see new patients with acne and psoriasis. Our skin cancer specialist nurse provides support and counselling for tumour patients. They also provide surgical and PDT services to the department.
Surgical lists are for dermatological local anaesthetic surgery only. The list size depends on the case mix. The complexity of cases will be decided by the post-holder. Surgical treatment of benign lesions is restricted, as per guidelines issued by the local CCGs. West Suffolk Hospital has a plastic surgery service with four consultant plastic surgeons in post.
Paediatric dermatology is run in close cooperation with the paediatricians in the Rainbow outpatient clinic in the Childrens unit. Children are admitted under the paediatricians and emergency referrals for children as inpatients are as per shared rota. We have support from our paediatricians who help with eczema follow up and skin prick testing/allergen advice. We have close links with the paediatric dermatology unit/plastic surgery in Addenbrookes hospital and tertiary referrals are sent to Great Ormond Street childrens hospital.
