Job summary
The post holder will work within mental health psychological intervention services, providing high volume screening and assessment (in accordance with the Mental Health Measure Part 1 or Part 2, where appropriate).
The post holder will autonomously manage own clinical caseload to provide low level psychological interventions to individuals and groups for common mental health conditions under clinical supervision and the appropriate governance framework.
The low-level interventions comprise/are informed by evidence-based interventions developed from psychological theory and practice i.e. standardised psychological therapies (CBT guided self-help, behavioural activation, brief solution focused therapy, mindfulness etc.). This may include face-to-face or telephone contacts, or contacts through othermedia for people with condition specific difficulties as described in Matrics Cymru and / or those suffering with dementia/ neurodevelopmental conditions. Develop group protocols under supervision, prepare materials, collate, analyse and report outcomes. The therapies are aimed at common mental health problems that impacton functioning and usually last up to 6 sessions or longer for group work.
Some therapy will be delivered individually, but there may also be structured groups for specific problem areas, such as anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or emotional regulation.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist the psychologist with evaluation of outcomes, piloting quality initiatives, improvement activities and other audit / evaluation related to service improvement required by management.
Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week, in order to minimise waiting times and ensure that treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
Receive referrals, adhering to referral protocols, organising assessment, signposting to appropriate services and facilitating onward referral to specialist services where required.
Undertake patient-centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and/or recovery.
Screen for risk using UHB recognised procedure and discuss with supervisor/senior registered staff if risks are identified.Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as required, given patient consent or best interests assessment.
Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.Assess and integrate issues surrounding work or unemployment, societal and familial factors into the overall therapy process.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge Essential
HCPC/NMC registrant (as defined to be able to undertake assessments under Part 1 Mental Health Measure.) With degree (or equivalent) Or Psychology Degree, eligible for Graduate Membership of BPS and successfully completed academic course of study/supervised practice in NHS settings or equivalent, in line with Matrics Cymru competences/standards for low intensity psychological interventions /qualified as a PTP Or Psychological therapist, working towards accreditation with an appropriate body meeting the criteria for CfWI Psychological Therapist Or Have extensive experience in working with people with mental health conditions and have completed formal training in the delivery of low intensity psychological therapies as designated in Matrics Cymru Demonstrates an understanding of common mental health conditions Demonstrates an understanding of the need to use evidence-based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post. Good understanding of the Mental Health Measure Part 1 and 2, Matrics Cymru and the Psychological Therapies Plan (2017).
Desirable
Demonstrates knowledge of societal issues and the impact it can have on mental health. Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems and their effects. Knowledge of and a willingness to work guided by the principles of prudent health care (as defined by the Welsh Government).
