Job summary

This post is specifically for the management of HIV patients and the proportion of work dedicated to GU/SRH will depend on the post holders' skills and interest in line with service needs. The post holder will be based primarily at Northampton however there will be an expectation to work across both hubs as per service need. Our main hub sites are located at Northampton General Hospital and St Mary's Hospital, Kettering. They will be expected to work closely with the Senior Nurses and senior leadership team within the service. The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary countywide consultant led HIV Team.

We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team in a Band 6 HIV senior staff position. Applicant should be able to demonstrate the skills, competencies, qualifications, and experience required to work at a Band 6 level.

However, candidates who do not yet fully meet the requirements for Band 6 are still encouraged to apply. For the right candidate, a development opportunity may be offered at a Band 5 HIV staff nurse position instead. This will include a structured period of training, support, and competency development. Upon successful completion of the required training programme of up to 12-18months and sign off Band 6 competencies the postholders salary will progress to Band 6.

Main duties of the job

To work alongside the senior nurses in the provision of an integrated specialist sexual health and HIV nursing service giving support, advice, education and information to clients attending the NISHH service at Northampton, Kettering and other spoke and outreach settings. This role involves direct contact with patients daily. This will involve dealing with enquiries, taking and managing blood results and medication concerns. It will incorporate a role for health advising, education, and partner notification. Basic STI testing for HIV patients will be part of this role and will be supported by your GU colleagues. The post holder will be expected to follow local and nationally adopted protocols, under the supervision and guidance of the senior doctors in the team. The post holder will be flexible and able to support new ways of working and the new model of service delivery within the HIV Unit (Summers Unit). They will be expected to manage telemedicine review clinics for patients and work independently but as part of a team. The post holder will be supported by the senior medical and nursing team and work alongside our specialist pharmacy team and psychologist.

Person Specification

Qualifications and experience Essential

UK NMC registered nurse (Adult) Experience of working in sexual health clinic at Band 5

Desirable

Experience of working with people living with HIV Holds NMP (V300) qualification or willing to train. Completion of a post registration course in HIV and Sexual Health

Knowledge and skills Essential

Venepuncture Demonstrable knowledge of awareness of manangement issues that relate to specific groups of people living with HIV (PLWH) Ability to use computer systems e.g. ICE , Lillie Ability to travel across county

Desirable

Experience of working with people living with HIV Completion of a recognised teaching/mentoring programme Demonstrable knowledge of confidentiality in HIV services Demonstrable experience of managing patients independently.
