About this role

Job summary

To provide specialist substance misuse care to offenders and to work as part of an integrated and multi-disciplinary health service, which may include in-reach services, reception duties, resource centre services, dual diagnosis management primary care nursing.

Main duties of the job

To deliver a range of specialist interventions at primary and secondary care level; to include:

Referral management, screening assessment, triage and evidence-based interventions One-to-one and group-work facilitation Assertive outreach interventions Managing a mixed and challenging caseload Work closely with the Substance Misuse Advanced Nurse Practitioner Carry out nursing interventions such as Triage, Medication administration and emergency response. To perform robust assessment, screening and interventions to offenders with substance misuse concerns.

Ensure that all waiting time, assessment and interventions are delivered in a timely manner, and positively contribute to the achievement of the service's performance targets.

Ensure integrated and collaborative working with other specialist services, including continuity of care and through the gate arrangements and liaison.

Management responsibilities

To communicate effectively on a range of issues that are often complex in their nature and in complex situations. Participate in the annual appraisal reviews and demonstrate reflective practice through the Knowledge and Skills Framework To maintain comprehensive and timely electronic clinical records ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times. Provide supervision, mentorship & leadership for junior staff. Be mindful of the unpredictable nature of the working environment, the job requirement and offender groups. Take all necessary care in the working environment, adhering to relevant health and safety policies. Participate and positively contribute to the services integrated clinical governance arrangements Carry out administrative tasks as directed including research, audit, data and activity statistics.

Leadership

To work positively and effectively in a difficult environment where the need for safe and secure containment may often challenge access to services and provision of quality substance misuse services. The post-holder will be expected to work within the established prison regimes. To understand the complexity of inter-agency involvement in offender welfare and to resolve issues that may occur across organisational boundaries.

Communication

Liaises with prison senior management team & staff. NHS professionals; police, courts, probation, CPS, social care services and other statutory and non-statutory agencies involved with care and aftercare supervision; general and forensic mental health services, and community drug and alcohol services.

Custodial Responsibilities

Assume personal responsibility for the security of issued keys. Understand and comply with prison orders, procedures, and instructions in your area of work. Comply with all security requirements. Respond to any situation or circumstance that might indicate a threat to security of the establishment or to the safety of an individual, completing Incident, Security, Injury, or other reports as appropriate. Report breaches of order and discipline including reporting and recording untoward incidents according to local protocol. Contribute to effective risk assessment and management procedures. IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ:

Person Specification

Substance Misuse Clinical Lead Person Specific Essential

Registered Nurse Relevant post registration training in one of the following areas: Substance misuse/dual diagnosis, Psychological therapies, RCGP Part 1 Certificate

Experience Essential

Minimum 2 years of working post qualification as a Registered nurse Post qualification experience in working within substance misuse services

Desirable

Experience in prison or secure settings

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge Essential

Clear understanding of Risk Assessment principles and procedures. Knowledge of substance misuse assessment, identification and management of withdrawal symptoms Show a clear understanding of how to give and receive highly complex and sensitive material
