Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive GP Assistant to join our friendly and busy GP Practice.
General Practice Assistants form part of a multi-disciplinary team within primary care, and provide a support role, carrying out administrative tasks, combined with basic clinical duties, helping to free up GPs time and contribute to the smooth running of appointments and improving patients' experience.
The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and organisation skills, and have the ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team, within a fast-paced environment. Flexibility is essential along with being an effective team player.

Main duties of the job
Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.Filtering on-line consultations (eConsult's) to ensure the patient sees the right clinician at the right time.Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for GP appointment.Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & Phlebotomy.Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc GPA Competency Framework 2.Explaining treatment procedure to patientsHelping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice of arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).Support the GP with immunisations/wound care.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
*A minimum of five GCSEs, ideally at grades A -- C, but equivalent level of work experience will be considered. *NVQ/Apprenticeship level 2 Business & Administration (or relevant equivalent)
Desirable
*GP Assistant Certificate *ECDL/CLAIT qualification in IT (or equivalent) RSA II Typing (or equivalent) *Experience of working in Primary care
Experience Essential
*Good communication and team working skills. *Previous experience of working as a member of a team. *Confidence working with computers and e-mail. Previous experience of working with the public and of customer care policies.
Desirable
*Experience of software packages such as Word and Excel, EMIS and Docman 10.
