Due to retirement from critical care, we are excited to expand our intensive care consultant team. The Post requires you to have a dual CCT with either emergency medicine or anaesthesia. Job Plans will differ depending upon the background of the successful Applicant. The indicative Job Plan is based on 10 PAs (of which 8.5 DCC).

Main duties of the job
The Posts will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital, but you will work (including out of hours) both on this site and in South Tyneside District Hospital. As well as the clinical aspects of the role, you will be expected to be active in non-clinical areas, particularly in research and education. We are a cohesive and productive team; a track record of successful professional relationships and positive feedback is highly valued. Critical care is delivered in two integrated critical care units within the Trust (Sunderland Royal Hospital 18 beds approx. 1200 admissions p.a., South Tyneside District Hospital 6 beds approx. 300 admissions p.a.) and the postholder would work across both units. Practices are aligned in both areas, and there is a shared IT system.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Primary medical qualification. Full GMC registration. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register for intensive care medicine or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the AAC. For applicants with a dual CCT, entry onto the GMC Specialist Register for emergency medicine or anaethesia or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the AAC. FFICM by examination or another postgraduate examination in intensive care medicine.
Audit & Research Essential
Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical practice. Involvement in quality improvement measures. Ability to undertake multi-disciplinary audit / audit in specialty area. Good presentation skills. Experience of clinical research.
Desirable
Undertaken research with published papers in refereed journals.
Personal Attributes Essential

Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate, to the Trust and its workforce. Experience Essential
Understanding of the NHS, Clinical Governance process and resource issues. Evidence of organisational, management and time-management skills. Evidence of quality improvement activity. Experience of supervising junior medical staff. Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Ability to teach clinical / technical / practical skills.
Desirable
Additional clinical skills to those required for a CCT in intensive care medicine. Ability to train and supervise echocardiography. Current life support course (e.g. ALS). Experience of consultant level working in the NHS. Evidence of management and administration experience and understanding management goals. Management course and / or certificate. Qualification in medical education.
