Job summary
We are delighted that you are considering joining our dynamic ENT team. Our department has grown significantly, offering a wide range of specialist services, including general ENT conditions, head and neck clinics, and paediatric ENT. We have also expanded our skin cancer surgery and reconstruction services and maintain close collaboration with other local ENT departments for head and neck care.
Our team comprises talented and dedicated consultants working in a friendly, flexible, and cohesive environment. We are committed to professional development, teaching junior doctors, and supporting evolving specialist interests. We are now seeking to recruit a new consultant, bringing our team to nine, supported by a strong group including a Specialty Doctor, two Registrars, and a Dewax Nurse Specialist.
We offer a structured development and coaching programme for new consultants, with excellent opportunities to develop individual professional portfolios in areas such as education, quality improvement, service development, and specialist clinical interests. We encourage mentorship, collaborative working across the Surrey ENT network, and active involvement in expanding elective ENT services and theatre capacity across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
Deliver Clinical, Educational, Managerial Services of the highest professional standard at Consultant Level to the Department
Work with existing consultants and the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality well-led service for patients including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients in accordance with Trust policies and practices
Deliver Direct Clinical Care to patients, through all parts of the Department assisting clinical decision-making and sharing equally in the workload
Must be able to demonstrate values consistent with the Trust Values Based Behaviours and be willing to develop self to an Exemplary level and act as a role model for others, in relation to patients:
Ability to communicate effectively with them and with other staff to ensure that their care, treatment and support are not compromised
A good understanding of their communication, physical & emotional needs; can identify their individual needs and preferences, their changing needs, recognise and promote their independence
Contribute to the consultant led triage service of all patient referrals
Have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, ensuring safe handover as appropriate
Engage with medical, nursing, management and all relevant co-workers in the delivery of department objectives: to provide clinical leadership, improve the patient experience; ensure the highest quality clinical care

Job description Job responsibilities
Clinical
Undertake outpatient clinics and operating lists
Work harmoniously with other team members including the audiology team, junior medical staff, training grades, speech therapists and nursing staff
Contribute to clinical multidisciplinary meetings where required
Partake in the 1 in 8 ENT Consultant on-call rota covering Royal Surrey County Hospital, St Peters and Ashford Hospital.
Leadership or managerial
Instruct and support junior grades and nurses working within outpatient clinics and operating lists
Involvement with training the Specialty Doctor to help develop their role
Information and reporting
Undertake research and audit projects to which the appointee will be expected to contribute as well as initiate their own projects
Attend and contribute to regular educational half days and ENT audit meetings with the Royal Surrey County Hospital staff. These meetings usually take place at Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford.
Service improvement
It is hoped that the appointee will be able to participate in assisting other staff members in reaching Trust targets by undertaking additional programmed activities
Support with RTT performance targets

Qualifications Essential
Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (or CCT) by the time of taking up the post or be accredited for inclusion on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register. Fully registered with the General Medical Council
