Job summary
Lakenham Surgery is currently seeking one or more experienced Practice Nurses (up to one FTE) to join our friendly and supportive practice and nursing team. Our practice nurses are responsible for providing a full range of treatment room and chronic disease management nursing, working closely with the wider practice team.
Previous Nursing experience in a GP Practice is essential, together with familiarity with all treatment room activities, including cervical cytology, immunisations and health promotion. Qualifications and experience in the management of Long Term Conditions such as Diabetes, Asthma and COPD are also essential.
The successful applicant(s) will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills and should be willing to upskill further as required. The role(s) would suit good team player(s) able to provide support and help to colleagues to ensure that we provide the best possible care to our patients.
We are looking to cover Full-Time hours but open to recruiting either one Full-Time or two Part-Time candidates.
Main duties of the job
Patient Care providing a wide range of nursing services to include the following areas. Training will be given where required
Chronic Disease monitoring, reviews and management Administration of immunisations Injections Travel Vaccinations Assessing and treating minor injuries Contraceptive, family planning and sexual health advice Cytology smear tests Reactive and proactive health promotion with referral onwards as necessary ECGs and other regular nursing procedures and health assessment checks Wound care, dressings and referring to relevant services such as leg ulcer clinic if needed INR monitoring and the use of INR star Recognising and reporting on Safeguarding concernsThis list is not exhaustive.

As a qualified nurse, the post holder will be a key team member contributing towards high quality patient care and the development of the Practice. Our nurses are responsible for delivering a wide range of nursing services to the practice population.
You will work autonomously within your own areas of competence as outlined and collaboratively with the general practice team in the care of practice patients.
Patient Care providing a wide range of nursing services to include the following areas. Training will be given where required
Chronic Disease monitoring and reviews with patients which may include Asthma, CHD, COPD, Diabetes (depending on qualifications & experience) as required for patient care and QoF Immunisations, including childhood immunisations, seasonal flu, pertussis, pneumococcal and shingles Injections including Zoladex, B12s, Prostap, Nebido etcTravel Vaccinations Minor injury patients Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Contraceptive, family planning and sexual health advice including pill and coil checks and administering Depo Provera injections Cytology smear tests Health promotion at reviews for both men and women's health and on an opportunistic basis with referral to other members of the primary and secondary health care team as necessary Diet and nutrition advice ECGs Blood pressure checks Safeguarding recognise and report on Safeguarding concerns for both adults and children Swabs Venepuncture Wound care and referring to relevant services such as leg ulcer clinic if needed INR monitoring and the use of INR star Undertaking urinalysis This list is not exhaustive.
Other responsibilities may also include
Participating in and leading on infection control checks and audit Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms Maintaining stocks of waiting room leaflets Ordering of Health Promotion Literature Ordering of stock from the local hospital Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels Obligation at all times to maintain accurate records Duty to advise line manager of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks Attendance at and participation in any practice meetings when required.
