About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Elective Orthopaedics Specialty, for a full-time, permanent, Band 6 Service Manager.

We are looking for a pro-active, dynamic, experienced manager with excellent communication, organisational, administrative, waiting list and staff management skills with a proven track record of working in a demanding and fast paced environment.

The postholder will be responsible for ensuring effective operational and strategic planning, development and management of the EO surgical services to ensure compliance with national waiting time targets. To achieve this the postholder will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of Divisional Managers, Consultants, Nurses and Admin Teams to ensure the effective delivery of Trust, Directorate and Team objectives.

Person Specification

Training and Qualifactions Essential

A level standard of education, or equivalent, to include Maths and English NVQ 3 in Management or equivalent Comprehensive IT experience/qualification ILM Introductory Management Certificate or equivalent

Desirable

Diploma/degree holder

Experience Essential

Experience within the Healthcare sector at a management level including: project management, business planning, change management, multidisciplinary working, financial management, human resource management, performance management Evidence of having achieved Challenging healthcare and business targets Well developed IT skills to manage and report on complex performance management information systems. Previous experience of managing staff.

Desirable

Previous experience of using Nervecentre and other NUH reporting systems

Communication and Relationship Skills Essential

Able to communicate business sensitive information Able to provide complex or sensitive information verbally and in range of documentary forms including letters and reports Secure agreement or co-operation from NHS staff at all levels of the organisation Maintain sensitivity and empathy in communication with patients/clients Day to day supervision of a team of staff

Desirable

Experience of working in a similar role within the NHS. Experience of managing patient complaints

Analytical & Judgement Skills Essential

Able to use judgement to make decisions on meeting business targets Able to analyse a range of facts or situations, and compare a range of options Skilled in highlighting business performance information Proposes changes to practices, procedures for own area Able to undertake audits of healthcare data Knowledge and application of 18 week RTT pathways and cancer targets.

Planning & Organisation Skills Essential

Demonstrates an ability to work on own initiative Works within prescribed deadlines Can formulate and organise complex activities, and programmes Coordinating multi-disciplinary meetings Able to place orders and maintain stock control Able to exercise responsibility as authorised signatory for administrative processes Manage and develop computer filing systems Can train new members of staff in administrative systems Able to undertake significant job responsibility for maintaining operational systems Evidence of personal development relevant to post

Physical Skills Essential

Able to sit for long periods at a desk. Prolonged VDU usage.

Other Requirements Essential

Demonstrates an awareness of the importance of prompt timekeeping and good attendance at the workplace Remains calm and co-operative under pressure or in difficult and uncertain situations Able to sustain concentration required for checking documents, for inputting into computer Displays self confidence, innovation and positive image Demonstrates enthusiasm and a conscientious approach to work, advocating this to others Flexibility to be able to work across both campuses if required.
