Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Fitness Instructor to join our inpatient service at the Campbell Centre.
This role involves providing a service to service users with complex mental health problems on anacute adult inpatient mental health ward within the service.
You will be required to undertake assessment of service users (within departmental guidelines) regarding their suitability to participate in exercise sessions.
Main duties of the job
To plan, teach, implement, and review individual and group exercise programmes, and sports sessions to promote/improve physical and mental wellbeing in both gym and community settings. To complete service user records and other required documentation. To maintain, repair and ensure correct and safe functioning of all gymnasium/ sports equipment. Including organising outside repairs and warranties etc and planning for new equipment. To work closely with the Social and Recovery Team and Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) in coordinating and facilitating client centred activities.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Recognised sports coaching or fitness instructor qualification, level 3 or above (HND, ACDM, YMCA, exercise instructor's certification or other industry recognised qualification) Registered with Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) or Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMPSA) GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
Desirable
Other relevant qualifications relating to health, exercise and sports science. First Aid Course.
Experience Essential
Experience of working with clients with mental health diagnoses. Experience of working as a qualified fitness professional. Experience in instructing groups and individuals in sports, exercise and physical activity. Experience of working within a team. Experience of taking responsibility for monitoring gym equipment safety. Evidence of autonomous working.
Desirable
Experience of managing and supervising staff and services. Experience of audit or evaluation of services Teaching experience Experience of working in an inpatient mental health unit
Skills Essential
Able to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of people with mental health issues. Able to communicate clearly both in written form and verbally. IT skills. Able to manage time effectively.
