Job summary
ESNEFT is one of the largest radiotherapy providers in the East of England, delivering treatments to over 3000 patients per year across Colchester and Ipswich sites. Colchester Hospital are looking for a Clinical Scientist in Radiotherapy.
You will be expected to participate in a broad range of radiotherapy physics activities including quality assurance of radiotherapy treatment equipment, treatment planning (EBRT and Brachytherapy), and providing assistance with computing throughout the department. You will work closely with colleagues within our multi-disciplinary team of physicists, engineers, radiographers and clinicians.
Colchester Hospital is equipped with 2 new TrueBeam multi-modality linacs routinely delivering VMAT, FFF and SABR techniques plus, plus a Halcyon linac with Hypersight imaging, an Xstrahl treatment unit and a Bravos treatment unit.
The departments Aria system is provided by a Varian Managed Service, treatment plans are produced using the Eclipse treatment planning system. We have a Siemens Go.Open Pro CT simulator with access to MR scanning slots for radiotherapy. You will possess an honours degree in physics with relevant postgraduate experience preferably including a higher degree. Ideally you will be HCPC state registered as a Clinical Scientist however if you are eligible for registration within 6 months of taking the position you are encouraged to apply.
Main duties of the job

This will involve working closely with colleagues within our multi-disciplinary team of physicists, engineers, radiographers and clinicians.
You will assist in the provision of the Radiotherapy Physics Service (external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy) at Colchester Hospital under the overall responsibility of the Lead for Radiotherapy Physics and the Head of Radiation Services.
You will also participate in research and development activity.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
1st or 2nd class Honours degree in Physics Registration as a clinical Scientist with the HCPC Masters degree in an area of Medical Physics or equivalent level of specialist knowledge

Membership of relevant professional body
Experience Essential
Proven post graduate experience in radiotherapy physics or successful completion of the Scientist Training Programme specialising in Radiotherapy Physics Ability to act as an entitled Operator under IR(ME)R17 within the field of Radiotherapy Experience of performing routine treatment planning Experience of performing quality assurance on radiotherapy equipment
Desirable
Brachytherapy treatment planning and equipment QA Commissioning of radiotherapy equipment Experience of using Varian linacs, the Eclipse treatment planning system and the Aria oncology management system Evidence of research and development activity
